I always like reading placards to see what people say on them....

Now, halfway down the line of pics, there's one with a group of the WBC protesters.

And on the far left, there's someone with a bright green placard.

And on it, says....

You know what this is about - OMG - I've just realised it as I'm typing this....

The Haitian earthquake. It was caused by plate tectonics. And they are NOT amused that people are suggesting that hundreds of thousands of people WEREN'T murdered by God. They love it when God slaughters people.

Everyone should just ignore them, including the press. They wouldn't keep it up if no one gave them attention.

Meeting hatred with peace and love is the best option.

No, that would be second. Ignoring them would be best. After a while they would start to get pissed and do something illegal to get attention again. Then they could be arrested. Imagine how they would feel protesting while people just walk by and don’t even bother to look at them. It would be infuriating to the attention whoring people they are.

They need the attention. It's why they advertise where they are planing to protest. If they were not out for the attention they wouldn't bother letting people know where they will be. Too have a protest work one has to draw attention to it. If everyone, including the press just ignored them they would get more attention seeking - to the point of breaking the law. By protesting their protest people just help them by making sure the press will cover the story.

You're right love, it would be. But in this world the people of WBC et al are going to get news coverage no matter what they do. By doing this protest the kids and people of LB showed them their opinions are not held by the majority. If the people of WBC are going to get press coverage I'd prefer this sort of coverage that shows the younger generation aren't buying their lies and hatred.

Mother Theresa once said "I'll never attend and anti-war rally, if you have a pro-peace rally, call me and I'll be there".

This is sort of what she was talking about.

Either way, I'm so proud of those kids that when I first read that article I had tears in my eyes.

On second thought we are both right. Everyone should ignore the WBC except a group of protesters. Then the press should only cover the protesters of the protesters, but not mention the WBC. It would really piss them off.

They do have a particular brand of lunacy that does seem to irritate the nerves. But would you kill them? There is no way of changing their minds. There is no way of silencing them. The only thing that can be done is to face them head on.

They are not going away.

My point is that there are more rational, logical people than religious fanatics. While religious people are still in abundance, many aren't so closed minded that a logical debate of whatever issue is on the table can be sufficient to provoke thought.

Once we have that, we win.

The only way our rights and respect is going to come about is for people to know about it. So if the WBC gets one follower from a protest, how many more people are going to recognize them for the hateful bigots they really are?

Being a sheep is still considered un-American.

What do you do to a kid that copies excatly what you say? You ignore them and they stop. It’s the same principle, these people are just nuts so it may take awhile.

It's not hard to understand. They want attention so to get them to stop, we stop giving it to them. Feeding strays only gets them to stay.

Also there is a difference in truly ignoring a problem and circumventing a problem.


Say you have a boat taking on water. Do you make the hole bigger before you clog it or do you just clog it? We are saying the same thing, you just feel we should make the hole bigger first and I don't.

You're absolutely right. Ignoring bullies makes them stop.

If we (the targets of their protests) ignored them, would that stop their protests? No.

If the media ignored them would that stop their protests? No.

This isn't a sinking boat. It's a tug of war. Don't drop the rope.
