Look what I found! Thrift store finds

Not from a thrift store but I just got this piano stool from work. It has glass ball and claw feet from the early 1900’s. They were going to throw it away. It took a little elbow grease to take the dust and grime off of it. Made by the Melvin Bancroft Co. of Lowell, Massachusetts.

I go to resell shops to look for music boxes for my collection. I’ve gotten quite a few much cheaper than what they would be on eBay. I got one that typically goes for at least $80 online for $20.

Lovely little piece Ali

I like the spindled bottom and the legs.

My sister turned 70 last Wednesday. I called my siblings a week before to check if there would be any special party or anything, and nothing. I had a 3-day weekend before the birthday and would have driven home if anything was planned. Could not get off work mid-week.

Nada. Nothing. Nil. Not even her son (in California) had noticed it was 70 and a big deal. Her daughter is an addict and cannot manage simple things, so no.

So, I reached out and told my big sis I wanted to do something special for her (without mentioning that no party seemed to be planned.) She wanted to buy some clothes, so I was pleased to find she actually wanted something. You're only 70 once, so I told her to buy five outfits and that would be my gift. And I warned her not to be frugal.

Yesterday, she texted me to thank me because they thought I was behind my siblings hosting a surprise birthday party for her the Saturday AFTER her birthday. It was a surprise, I'm sure. I wasn't responsible other than reminding all of them.

But, she also said she bought five outfits . . . including shoes . . . for $150!!! Sure enough, she went to a good friend who runs a resale shop with clothes on consignment. She likes buying at thrifts as much as I do, although I'm surprised a consignment store had prices that low.

I had budgeted much more, obviously, so I gave her a bump to get some patio plants, but really chuffed she bought stuff she loved and at a bargain. Vicarious joy.
