Why are you giving these bigots the power over you to make you feel this way?

Yes it most likely will be difficult being gay in society for quite some time.

I've lived a straight life and I'm living my gay life. Between the two, I'm much more happy now. Even with the discrimination, harassment, name calling, etc.

Oh, and you may want to go wrap quotes around the first post. I, for a moment, thought it was you who was talking.

I wish I has some inspirational words for you. I'm afraid I don't.

There's no way to go back. You have to face it know. How you handle yourself now will show others of what you're made.

Stand tall and don't let anyone tell you that you're a second-class citizen.

If a person was raised [gay], they would not be constantly questioning, "why do I feel that something is wrong with me", they would rather feel perfectly normal. Gayness is a direct result of people's events and experiences in life.

I don't agree at all. Basically, there are three different explanations for homosexuality:
1) It is a choice. Oh yes, let's choose something that will deny us getting married, that could potentially cause bodily harm and that is not accepted by a lot of people. So no, that's not it/
2) It is determined by your surroundings. I have never ever seen any parents raising their kids to be gay. All kids are, from birth, expected to become heterosexual, marry someone nice and get a kid or two. Society is bent on raising heterosexuals, since it is they who propagate the species. Homosexuality is viewed as weird or at the very least not standard (which is different from 'deviant'!) and as such, children aren't stimulated to grow up gay. So that can't be it either. So it has to be number three...
3) It is natural. That has to be the cause then.

Now, I know it's not easy to believe that and it will take time to come to a point where you accept it. Maybe you need help, maybe you can figure it out on your own. Whatever it is: don't strain yourself into becoming something you're not and definitely don't beat yourself up for something you can't do anything about.

Look what what guy says about gays? Is this something you read or something someone told you? Either way it's flawed. Think about it. In the first sentence it seems to state that a person is born neutral in regards to sexual orientation (I wouldn't dismiss that completely). Then it explains that because of that a "homo" can be created thus proving homosexuality is a fetish. Well, The same would have to be true about a "hetero". Is heterosexuality a fetish? Its starting to sound like this guy is saying sex (period) is a fetish. The only proven thing here is that what this guy is saying is a bunch of B.S. :bs:

Here read this it might bring you up a bit :-)

The title sounds bad and the colors are not good either but it's a good read...|

Biggest load of crap. I have never been associated or knew of anyone or environment that would be considered "gay" according to the stereotypes. Just about everything and everyone around me was hetero so what that person said is moot.

This debate has been going on for many years now.

Born or bred? Genetics or upbringing?

One way or the other, the science has not come up with a compelling answer to this question. The gay gene yet has to be identified.

Of all the great theories of the 19th and 20th centuries (often referred to as 'mega-discourses', such as Psychoanalysis, Communism, etc.) only very few theories survived at all, if only scathed.

The best of all the 'survivors' happens to be the Evolutionary Theory, which for decades wrestled with the issue of homosexuality in species. (Being gay is wide phenomenon in animal kingdom.) Actually, one of the weakest cornerstones of that theory was the issue of homosexuality.

At the moment, evolutionists are claiming that homosexuality fulfills a very critical and much needed purpose in the evolutionary chain. From their point of view, homosexuals are pre-destined not to propagate themselves but to help support the parenting efforts of their siblings, who might be coping with too numerous offspring, thus supporting the continuos existence of their family genes.

So much for the science...

Your life is however, your own science, so to say.

Ask yourself, why would anyone, who neither pays your phone bills nor does he put any food on your kitchen table, take the liberties of telling you what kind of sexual and private life should you have?

Why would you let them do it, and why would their views affect your life in the least?

So, they are a majority? Good for them. Why would you care about that? Don't tell me that Bill Gates is having awful sleepless nights, because there is such a small number of people on earth, who have as much money as he does. Boy, doesn't he like being a minority?

You are, who you are. Your job number one is to make the very best of your own situation. Do not anyone detract your from the hard work, you need to do in order to get all the things with your life going well for you.

Just my 2 cents...

No fuck this. I can't do it. I'm already black, isn't that enough to have to deal with?

I can't do this right now.
Not to be harsh, but don't be such a big baby. All of us here are dealing with prejudice, ignorance, bigotry, and all sorts of other social evils every day. We aren't any different from you, and we've all been frustrated and hurt, we've all gotten tired of fighting and felt the need to throw in the towel and give up.

But this is the hand you were dealt: go ahead and play it. Folding is for wusses.

As for being black and gay, while I am aware that it is frequently a bigger cross to bear than being white and gay (in America anyway), piles of people do it all the time and survive just fine. You can, too.

How do you deal with ignorant assholes? Ignore them or engage them as your conscience dictates; but do not give them power over you. Do not let them make you hate what you are... because letting them is your choice, not theirs.

And to address this moron's particular remarks, what "science" does he cite as having "proven" that homosexuality is created rather than inborn? The scientific community, though increasingly interested in this question, has yet to prove anything other than that it's something you can't change. When confronted with such an obviously idiotic statement, I usually challenge the person's sources. Where did he read this? What is the name of the publication? Is it a legitimate scientific journal or a religious storefront?

My other challenge to such persons is "how is it any business of yours?" People spend a lot of time trying to justify their bigotry, when it would be a hell of a lot easier for them to just turn their backs and stop thinking about it altogether. What difference does it make to him whether or not homosexuality is inborn or learned? He's not homosexual, and no homosexual asked his opinion, so it's none of his freakin' business.

So buck up, honey. You didn't choose this fight, it chose you; but your only choices are to stand and fight or lay down and get trampled on. You don't get to just go home and forget about it... the fight will follow you wherever you go.

And remember this: you are not alone. We're all here fighting beside you.

No fuck this. I can't do it. I'm already black, isn't that enough to have to deal with?

I can't do this right now.
Just remember that you didn't check the "yes" box next to the questions
"Do you want to be gay?", and
"Do you want to be black?"
on some questionnaire before you were born.

Learn to play the hand you were dealt. You'll be much happier with yourself.

I hear the Flat Earth Society is looking for new members, too. And they also have SCIENTIFIC PROOF for their beliefs. That doesn't mean they're right.

I can't give you any advice that hasn't already been said, on how to feel better about yourself. However, you can't change those aspects of yourself, and those who say that you can (you know, groups such as Exodus, etc.) are just plain WRONG. There may be the rare exception where they are correct (because I don't think it is ALWAYS the same factors that cause somebody to be gay), but I'd say that it's quite rare.

I don't think that any penguins, rats, geese, zebras, etc. consciously chose to grow up gay, nevertheless some turn out to be gay. Under some circumstances, one's sexual orientation MAY be "easier" to change than changing his or her race, but I think usually this is not true at all.

The best thing you can do, is to be a good role model - and perhaps, where you can have influence, try to work for change. Eventually, with common sense, you can discuss your sexuality with some of your friends or perhaps family. Without "diving in" right away, there are ways of observing how certain people are likely to react. There are enough "gay things" that occur in everyday life, nowadays, that you'll be able to observe reactions of others without them knowing that you're paying attention to that.

It won't be easy, but your presence on this internet site is certainly a good start, even though you are more-or-less anonymous. This site includes many people who have felt the same things you're feeling, and who are in various stages of coming to terms with the life-cards they were dealt.

I share your disgust with those people who say it's an abomination, we can be cured, we're going to hell, we shouldn't have any rights, etc. I still have to ask why these people scream so much about us, while MOSTLY IGNORING corporate crime and corruption, lying and adultery, rape and the environment (or raping the environment??), child abuse and unjustified wars, etc. One of the world's largest Churches swept paedophilia among their own under the carpet for decades, and did their best to condone and hide it, but "God help us" if WE do anything of that sort.

I'd like somebody to ask the author if, because homosexuality is "of course" a choice, whether he will volunteer to change his sexuality and true feelings to GAY and he will receive $100,000,000? I bet he wouldn't go for it, because he knows that HE can't choose, wouldn't he?

As usual R-M came up couple of good points here, too.

I'd only add that guys, who are so absorbed with your problems as to worry about how did you get to be gay or why are you gay or whatever, most likely have loads of unresolved issue in their own lives.

Not being able to resolve their own burning issues, they are turning to lesser challenges, where they can shine at the expense of their fellow men, while cowardly covering up their own weaknesses. Doesn't this tell you something about your detractors?

Ok, you know that?

Strap on a freaking pair, dude.

Stop being so weak.

Who cares what some psycho thinks? Who cares if people know you're gay?

Who cares if you get called names?

Quite honestly, being gay is no different than being straight. you still need to have a set strapped on to make it in this world, gay or not.

I fucking hate being gay. If this shit is what I have to deal with the rest of my life, I honestly don't even know if it's worth living(edit)....(edit)I hate this shit.........

Could you climb down off your cross? We need the wood to build a fire.

I know plenty of happy, healthy, well adjusted guys who are black and gay. I also have been exposed to numerous fecking miserable 'straight' 'white' guys.

If being gay is the biggest source of grief in your life consider yourself damn lucky. Most people in the world have REAL problems like hunger, poverty, war, disease...I'd rather suck a little cock than deal with the daily realities of survival that define for BILLIONS of people and untold MILLIONS of AIDS orphans. Wouldn't you?

I kind of figure seeing as you live in one of the wealthiest, safest, best fed, most comfortable places on earth, if your life 'isn't worth living' you might want to stop bitching and do something about it...Other than complaining.

I've come to the realization that people really are just fucking stupid. The only reason homosexuality is looked down upon is because some stupid ass book supposedly says, "two men shall not lay together".

BTW,

Just a loose factoid: The Bible has little to do with it...Tell a fundamentalist Muslim/ Sikh/whatever you "like ass" and he won't quote Leviticus to condemn you. Even some agnostics and atheists hate fags. For many fundamentalist Christians the Bible is just the excuse closest at hand.

Homophobia exists in the Bible (if it even does, which I doubt) because it existed in the minds of the men who wrote it, not the other way round.

Other people are welcome to use kid gloves.

I know that I only snapped out of my one-man pity party at 19 when an older friend told me those exact words.

Nobody is going to make your life happy for you. That's something that you need to do yourself.

I'm sorry, but I have to go with Soilwork here. It may sound harsh, but it needs to be said.

Problems don't get solved when you walk on egg shells around them, trying not upset anything. Problems get solved when you stop whining, grow a spine, and deal with them. The longer people sit around feeling sorry for themselves, the harder it will be for them to stop. So...just stop now, while there's still time.

be proud you are black and be proud you are gay. you know how good, honest, caring, decent, etc. you are. don't be maniplated by this type of mother fucker crap. no body on earth - whatever color whatever sexuality - has a rose garden. you can control this within you. don't weaken for some pile of shit, PLEASE dude

I'm with the tough love crowd. Stop wallowing in self pity and loathing and learn how to be a successful person all around. I know you've posted another thread and I have urged you to get real counselling and maybe medical help to deal with your depression and anxiety.

Have you ever gone and volunteered your time for an organization and become involved in something else other than yourself?

Being gay or straight is not just about where you stick your cock and there are as many miserable straight people out there as gays.

I think you are going to find that if you don't take some steps to deal with your emotional and socialization problems yourself, you are going to get less and less sympathy by posting on boards. Just saying....

A punk band I quite like sings the lines:
NOT PROUD - Of my skin
NOT PROUD - Of where I live
I'm fucking proud of who I am...

That band is also strictly pro-gay, incidentally. (They're white, so since they're saying they're not proud, they mean they don't consider being white something that you should be proud of - it's the inverse equivalent of your situation)

As soon as you treat your skin or your sexuality as the problem, you're doing exactly what the bigots want. They want us to think it's us who have the problem. Stand tall, and tell them the truth - Your sexuality is your business alone. Your skin is your business alone. If they have a problem with that, well it sucks to be them, because nothing's going to change, and you should never limit yourself because somebody else wants you to.

Be proud of the person you are. Don't be ashamed of your skin. Don't be ashamed of your sexuality. Be happy. Be proud of yourself; When you look at the bigots, be happy that you're not someone like them - is such scum that they rely on making others feel bad about things which no man, no woman, no living creature should feel bad about. You've done nothing wrong!

Hold your head high and be unrepentant. You've got nothing to repent, after all. Keep that in mind.
