@jdcnow: Thank you for the pointers, I'll make sure to look for the shadows in the future. Unfortunately, after doing some more research, I have discovered that the image I have posted before is a Frankenstein consisting of a face, a different body and (most likely photoshopped) nether regions. I wish I hadn't looked into this issue so thoroughly; now the illusion is gone. :(

Looking at this pic close up, the lighting of the room looks completely real, the picture is grainy throughout, likely taken with a cell phone camera - no on spot or area in the photo is more pixelated than the rest of the photo. Shadows look completely natural. Um, imho, yup, this likely is real.
