I just recently moved to L.A. and I've got a question. Are there any good gay bars near Hollywood, or in Downtown L.A.? What bars are the best? I'm just looking for a good place to hang out, maybe dance a bit, meet a guy, and have some fun!

I lived in L.A for a while for school, didn't like it much though. That city is just so fake and superficial to me. I hope your experience is better than mine was.

Maybe Akbar in Silverlake? more down to earth than weho.

LA is only fake and superficial because of the out of towners who come in search of hollywood and glamour. real LA natives are down to earth and really cool

It all really depends on your age and preference. Im 30 and here are some of my favs.
Downtown:
Shits & Giggles (venue sometimes changes so just google it)
Mustache Mondays (venue changes sometimes too)

Lots of bars are gay friendly and you will tend to find mixed crowds at
The Broadway Bar & The Golden Gopher. Those tend to be very chill low key bars. Bar 107 is pretty cool and eclectic and has colt and pbr in the large cans..dont know why i thought it was cool but it was.

If youre in the mood for some Mexicans in cowboy hats and not afraid to step into TJ in Downtown then go to Jalicso, its on main st close to the Edison (which is also a nice place but you have to use your gaydar there cuz its pretty mixed but really nice place.)

Silverlake:
Akbar and Mjs are the best. Tuesdays and Thursdays are good at MJ's Get early on tuesday by 10 to avoid waiting in line. you can dance and watch the gogo boys.

If youre into trying something new and interesting head up to the Eagle or Faultline. Wear a full body condom to avoid catching anything ;) i go there every once in a while when i feel like being adventurous, its more a daddy/bear environment and great to see once or twice for the experience.

If you want to dance go to either Arena or Circus they have latin nights and are catered to people that wanna dance. Other than that just hit up west hollywood.

Some say LA is filled with all the superficial people and my answer to that is yes, but you can find some cool ones in between them. Just go out expecting it so you wont be irritated. There are lots of places in weho to meet half decent people try fiesta, trunks, motherlode, rage and i tend to avoid places like HERE and Eleven and the abbey can have its good and its bad days.

so good luck and welcome to LA, been here 4 years and counting.

If you are looking for laid back and friendly Long Beach has a few gay bars and it is more of a beach vibe.

If you want dancing, drinking and half naked guys West Hollywood is your best bet. Santa Monica Blvd has a handful of different bars/clubs to hang out in.

For Dancing there is also MJ's in Silver Lake also Levi and Leather there the Eagle and Faultline

Try the Beer bust on Sundays at the Faultline

mj's tues night for rimjob. it gets packed so get there a little early.
big fat dick at fubar on thursday. the guy who throws that party also throws one at mj's on friday, and used to throw hotdog(@ dragonfly) on sat, but not sure if that is still going on.

eleven/here/abbey are all the A&F mid 20's-professional crowd, same with beige(tues).
fiesta cantina and rage are the younger guys.
motherload is a mix of guys.

faultline and eagle are for bear/cub crowd

thursday night at akbar is dirrty house a fun house club in the small room. but akbar is a fun hipster/arty/mixed crowed most of the time

the roosterfish in venice is a cool neighborhood bar thats fun on the weekends
