Losing Weight

thanks for ALLLL of the suggestions

what happened first was i used to weight like 185... and i stopped drinking soda and started drinking water and cut back on junk and overreating...

and that worked for a while... but now i've just stopped at 155-ish and i'd rather be 120-130

so that's why i'm thinking dieting isn't enough... so like... what kind of excercises are reallllly effective to losing weight??

hope youre not trying to be "gay" thin! those twinks at the bars are disturbing! they look like fem aliens in half shirts! unless youre 4 feet i don't think 120lbs is a safe weight.

It's really very simple: quit eating so much crap! ;)

I lost close to 100 lbs simply because I quit stuffing my face with crap all the time. No exercise. No vegetables. No health food of any kind. Hungry? Drink a gallon of water.

That is so idiotic. You can fucking substitute nutrients with water. You lost 100 lbs, sure, but you also did a lot of destruction to your body if that's how you lost it. You can eat all day long as long as it's the right food.

Unless you're doing weight training, half the weight you lose will not be adipose tissue but will be muscle tissue. This will cause your metabolism to slow and will make the inevitable future weight gain even faster.

The basic rule is just consume less calories than you burn. To concentrate ON the weight loss itself can be quite mentally and emotionally challenging. However, to concentrate BEYOND it ... let's say to running a 10k, bike tour or a triathlon, it's soooo much easier. The weight loss simply becomes a side-effect of the training, and the token rewards (i.e., finishing the race or event) have lasting motivation.

Consistency is key. Every day, or other day, or 3 times a week. Then it becomes a habit and motivation is no longer needed. Currently seems to be working for me. I'm not even thinking about weight loss. Just thinking about the races and training. And what do ya' know ... the pounds are starting to shed on their own.

IMHO, those who reduce their caloric intake eventually look slimmer; those who consistently workout usually look younger. But oh how potent it is to see those who manage both. Healthy and young at heart.

Try Almased, it is natural, honey, soja & milk mix that activates your
thyroid gland. your bodyfat will burn more faster and you feel more
healthier and active too.

first off i'm 5'2 so no that wouldn't be 'gay' thin for me...

second off i think i'm getting the hang of this... i've been drinking even more water than i was before, not even having any soda and i've been doing situp/crunches every night....

i just started school again today and soon i hope to get into a running habbit (tho it's so friggin' cold outside!!)

Now, it's important to know that loosing belly fat is the most dificult thing in the world. Since January last year i started changeing my diet, then in april i joined a gym but only went for a month. Of course i drink a lot of water and avoid junk food. But since August last year i have been working out on a daily basis, swimming and weight lifting... guess what, my GUT hasn't improved that much, as a matter of fact i feel my stomach is as big as it was last year!!!!! WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? i have no idea, and have i mentioned i haven't droped one single pound since august? I'm not giving up, cause i know geting a six pack is hard... i just hope there was an easyer way.

yeh the thing is you can have that six pack but it could just be UNDER the fat... which is stupid and retarded

god i hope this isn't some biological thing for me :X

cardio, dont eat a lot, cardio, dont eat a lot, cardio, skip dinner, cardio, drink water....CARDIO! and weights.

Don't listen to the post above.

Yes, cardio is important but you need to eat to lose weight. As soon as you stop eating, your body goes into starvation mode and will slow down its metabolism of calories and will store everything you eat as fat. You should eat at least 3 meals a day but it is even better if you eat 5-6 times a day. Portion contol is key when you are eating this frequently as you could end up eating too many calories. A good number of calories a day for a guy who is trying to lose weight is 1500-2000.

Cardio helps burn calories and fat but if you want to get in shape you need to do weight training as well. If you only do cardio, you will be thinner and will have less fat and water but you won't have much muscle. As a result, your metabolism will be slower than it would be if you had more muscle because muscle burns off 10 times more calories than fat.

lol, kidding.

Check the sodium level on the diet mineral water -- make sure that it isn't in the triple digits per serving. Sodium makes you retain water which makes losing weight harder.

Also, a lot of people don't approve of drinking anything "diet" because of the aspartame content and other chemicals that are there. However, it is still a better choice for you than most other drinks. I still recommend drinking water first though...

cut out sugar starch and fried foods as well as carbs and fast fast fast. drink only diet soda and water and you will lose weight. when you have a craving distract yourself for around 15-20 minutes and it will usually go away. Lancifer is right you can have a six pack underneath your abdominal fat but until you lose all the fat in that area your ripped abs will not be visible. also 120 pounds is the ideal weight for a person 5 ft 2 - 5 ft 5 and if that means it is gay thin then so be it. negative comments from people such as your too thin dont lose anymore you look like you have and eating disorder are comments made by obese people that are jealous of thin people so dont pay any attention to that sort of negativity!
You are so right!!! I am jealous and obese. give me a fucking break. It's real negative to worry about someone being to thin to a point of being unhealthy. Boy are you ass backwards or what?

That is ok. If you were to drink a litre of it it would be 120 mg which is still reasonable...

Some of the best advice I saw was on the forums of a running website in the UK (Runners World). Here's the list :

Look at what you can change in your normal eating patterns that you can maintain for the rest of your life, such as

  • Switch to skimmed milk
  • Have a glass of water with every meal
  • Ditch the spreads in your sarnies
  • Ditch mayo, salad cream etc
  • Dump ready meal
  • Eat fruit every mid morning and mid afternoon
  • Always have a good breakfast (cereal, OJ and jam on toast)
  • Dump crisps
  • Leave the vending machines at work alone
  • Buy leaner meats (Turkey, chicken lean beaf)
  • Eat more omega 3 rich fish
  • Switch from white sauce to tomato based ones
  • Take the healthy options when eating out or getting a takeaway

And

  • Always allow yourself a little bit of what you fancy

By the way - 6 years ago I used to weigh 31 stone and got down to 15.5 through purely sensible eating (and a whole lot of determination!). Good luck.

Im back on the diet track as i am a big boy lol .

I cut out all bread as i binge on it, i swap toast for cereal , salads nd grilled chicken breasts. Also i am a big lover of diet coke , a whole bottle has like 2 calories lol , but i follow a strict weieght watchers diet .

My exercise needs work , i can walk about in everyday life but when i go for 2km walks and stuff my legs and ankles swell and pull and ache like a bitch for hours, so latley i have been Tae Bo and water areobics. With the Tae bo it works for people even in my size , i cant do the whole session ( 55 mins) yet as im not in that fitness level but i am slowly increasing day by day, and the Tae bo makes me feel so good after doing it as well , plus its fun

Watch the diet coke and similar diet drinks.

First because they are very high in salt and second because sweeteners such as aspertame can confuse your body and provoke an insulin reaction, but because there are no real sugars to break down, some people end up with cravings for sweets.

I've got a little fat around the middle that I have been working on. Until it is gone I call it the insulation for my six pack. I work outdoors so every winter the insulation comes back as work slows, but in the spring as work increases the insulation decreases. My weight usually fluctuates by 20lbs or so with the seasons.
