so, to start this off, i do not consider myself to be overweight. but i am on crew and did gain some weight over the summer/past year because I didn't work out consistently. Anyway, my coach asked me if I could lose some weight, 5-10 lbs, so that I can hopefully weight 125lbs. (I am 5'7") I'm hoping that going back to eating I how I normally would and exercising every day again will be enough, but if not, does anyone have advice on what I should do? And how long should I expect something like this to take? Thanks for anything you can tell me.

Never an easy one. There is a diet named The Zone Diet, look at it in the internet. It changed my life

Forget fad diets.

Avoid processed carbohydrates (white bread, white rice etc). Eat wholemeal or wholegrain breads, brown rice, wholegrain pasta etc.

Avoid processed food wherever possible. Try to stick to fresh fruit and vegetables, and lean cuts of meat.

Avoid any food or beverage that contains high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). (Especially sodas).

Avoid alcohol.

That's what I was thinking... does his coach want him to become physically unhealthy? :o

thats what I thought.
I was 160 when I was younger at 5'7"

I looked at body mass index and that is normal weight

Yeah but still...that doesnt seem healthy. I bet he cant find a doctor who would recommend him to lose more.

You must be ectomorphic, because otherwise this is really not healthy, and (besides swimming or horseriding) i dont see how your coach would want you that way...

If you ever respond...do you feel good at the low weight your at?

Oh, I am a coxswain on our crew team, so I'm supposed to be really light. Anything under 130 would be ideal for that, really. But 125 is the minimum, so...
I feel healthy now, though I know I could lose a few pounds if I tried. And he told me not to do anything unhealthy, like skip meals or starve myself, but just watch what I do. I don't know... I'll see what happens in a few weeks.
