What is the limit on carbs if I start on a low carb diet? Because of work I only have time to do a 30 min low cardio workout and I want to drop at least 10-15 pounds.

If the carbs are consistently very low for two or three days, the diet is ketogenic, producing ketones in the urine. Weight loss is rapid, hunger and/or craving is suppressed and you may feel more energized. There is a distinct limit of carbs to produce that effect. It is not a matter of degree. If you exceed the limit the ketogenic effect end an it will take several days to start it again. The limit varies for individuals depending on metabolism and activity, but 40 grams of carbs are an estimate.
A low carb diet, higher in carbs than ketogenic, can be successful, but for some the carbs, by stimulating the production of insulin, creates a strong craving or demand for more.
 
The glycemic index provides a guide to the relative tendency of foods to stimulate production of insulin and craving for more. The Siuth Beach Diet book was based on a low fat diet without low glycemic index foods. Both the Atkins low carb diet book and the South beach diet book are available used and cheap on either Ebay or Amazon.
 
A better approach isa NO carb diet. Some cars will sneak in in condiments, etc. If you to focus on a specific number, it is inevitable that you will slip above your limit at times stopping the ketogenic effect.
A big advantage of the very low carb diet is that you do not need to measure or count, or to limit the total amount. Without carbs you will eat less total without stimulation to eat caused by carbs. It is a much easier diet for those reasons.
 
?A no carb diet?

Eat meat, fish, and very low carb vegetables (carrots, lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower) no carb protein powder. In some places you can buy no carb milk, low carb cottage cheese.
 
Cutting out any of the three macros is not a good idea for sustaining good physical and mental health long term. All are essential to the body. The trick is discovering the ideal proportions for your particular lifestyle to reach your fitness goals.
