The synthetics are expensive ... very expensive. But they work.

My question to you is, why did you thinks yours was low? What was the problem? Then maybe it will be more clear whether your level is low enough to trigger that.

And keep in mind that your levels can bounce around a fair amount depending on lifestyle issues. The one reading you give doesn't blow you off the charts. I have a friend who's in his 60s who just had a reading of 900 with the help of synthetics. He was in the 200s before treatment.

So what do you want out of this? A better sex drive? The one thing my friend tells me is that it just makes him feel younger. At your age, I don't think that's what you're shooting for.

The odd thing is that there really isn't a "normal" testosterone. The range is so broad that we can only say "within normal limits" aka WNL.

Since you're WNL, testosterone will not do much for you- except maybe shrink your testes, accelerate hair loss and give you a nice set of what are affectionately known as "bitch tits".

Out of curiosity, why did you think you might have low testosterone? were there any particular symptoms?

You should read the book "Testosterone for Life", and I would recommend you go to a urologist rather than an endocrinologist. The normal testosterone levels reported by labs are a bell curve, standard deviation based value, not one based on age. The decision to treat should be based on age and symptoms. There are also other tests like free testosterone and bioavailable testosterone that may be more accurate than the total testosterone. You may be suffereing from low testosteron given your age and the low value but the best course is to see a specialist. You can always go on a trial of therapy to get the level on the higher side of normal range and see if that makes a difference.
There is tremendous prejudice around this topic which is why I recommend seeing a urologist as they seem to have this area in a better perspective. ...And replacement therapy won't shrink your testes, accelerate hair loss, or give you bitch tits -as it won't get your levels that high if done right. Replacement therapy will also not work like illegally used, high dosed gym steroids. This is medical care not playtime.

Actually, serum testosterone is highest in the morning and lowest in the evening.

In school, we had a saying- "If you hear hoofbeats, look for horses instead of zebras". The point being that there are so many obvious causes of morning fatigue and depression that testosterone deficiency would not be the first thing to look for.

A sleep disorder, sleep apnea, thyroid imbalance, mono- all more common causes of the symptoms that you describe. Did the doctor run a complete battery of tests other than the testosterone level?

And he did a cortisol level and an ANA?

My situation was much the same as yours. Although I'm 46, this started 3 years ago. The best way to describe how I felt was the last hour of a hang-over. Your mind was going but the body was not. You could walk but you just wanted to lay down. You would walk but your heart would race and you felt like you had just run a mile. You were horny and got hard but eh- why bother I'm just not into it. Work was a drag and you just didn't care, you just wanted to make it through the day.
I was a 150 at my lowest. I finally found a doctor that heard what I was saying, saw my numbers (he was suprised I was able to walk into the office) and got me on my treatment.
Sunday morning is now shot day. I know it sounds bad but it has made a world of difference. It's 1ml injection each week that I do myself (it not as difficult as you think).
Your profile doesn't mention where you live. Depending on your country, you may qualify for trials. Something to investigate.
I feel for your situation and I hope you find some way to get better.

Best wishes!

ANA=Antinuclear antibody. It's a screening test for lupus.

Your testosterone levels are in the normal to high-normal range. It makes perfect sense that your doctor did not believe that you needed testosterone supplementation.

Your testosterone levels are fine. Have you checked your iron levels?
