ok guys, i am helpless when it comes to computers so if you decide to make suggestions don't hesitate to be non tech but detailed...have mercy on a dumb old school non tech fart.

computer 1 is a new dell with vista home premium and hooked up to comcast

computer 2 is a 2 yr old dell with windows xp and hooked up to the system by a wireless - g usb adapter model 54gc and is the remote unit.

everything is up and running, all the green lights are on and working as per norm...except on the lynksys master the oblong shaped light (far left on face plate) that normally burns a steady white is now a steady orange. if you power off and restart it will flash white for about 30 seconds and then revert to the orange.

now, i can't think of one equipment detail i've left out...prob went into info overkill (lol) to the problem---everything works fine everywhere but on computer 2...it will receive e-mails but wont send them.

this happened once before about 2 wks ago and our friend/neighbor who is tech support with apple (yes, that apple) came over fiddled for about 2 minutes and all was fine??????

he is out of town right now and my partner s' e-mail debt is rapidly stacking up. we've ckd all connections, rebooted, repowerd et cetera..any suggestions?

sorry to be so long winded and thx for any assistance as it is:-({|=:grrr::-({|= time here right now...btw we don't share the computers just the comcast

First off, could you go to "right click" on MY COMPUTER > PROPERTIES > HARDWARE TAB > DEVICE MANAGER on the effected computer and tell us if there is anything listed there with either a red 'X' or a yellow '!'? If there is, let us know what that is.

If there is NOT, then try is this, turn off both computers. Then, unplug your router, and the cable/DSL modem it's connected to. Wait for about 10 seconds, then plug the Cable/DSL modem and the router back in, then restart one (or both) of the computers and see if that doesn't fix the problem. If that does not, come back here and let us know.

Also, you did very good telling us what type of computers you have, and the USB wireless adapter, so thanks for that, but if you could tell us a few more things, what is the make and model of wireless router (the thing with the antennas) you have, and what kind of cable/dsl modem you have? And also, just to be completely clear, both computers are Dells, what are their model numbers?

And this is the correct USB adapter yes?

yes, adaptor is correct

will implment your suggestions when partner returns tonight and advise results either way.

didn't expect any response until tomorrow at best, thx yr Greattt

I really don't think that the email problem has anything to do with your equipment. If everything else works, that means your network is working. What program are you using to send email, and who is your email with?

Probably true, but one thing at a time is my philosophy, want to make sure his network is fully functional first. That light being orange is a key tip. We need to find out what that's all about first.

OK, it may not work, but at least we can use that to start ruling some things out. :)

oh dear, not sure what me is asking but we are with comcast and use windows

comp 1 is 100% functional but comp 2 can receive all e-mail and send none

He's asking what program or website you use to send/receive email.

Let's concentrate on the network first, once we rule that problem out (the orange light you described concerns me), then we can figure out why your email is messed up.

Let us know how you came out with the proceedure i suggested, it's not that difficult to do, just shut everything off, unplug the router and modem, count to 10, plug 'em back in, and turn the computers back on.
