In trying to get to know others better on the site I thought I would start this thread. The one thing we all have in common is how music makes us feel. In that spirit please post some lyrics that have over the years meant something to you.

I thought that the world had lost its sway
(Its so hard sometimes)
Then i fell in love with you
(Then came you)
And you took that way

from “Calling You” by Blue October

All is quiet but the drop of a gun.
I want to belong...to someone...
But maybe life's not for everyone.

from "Black Orchid" by Blue October

Here's one that always brings a tear to my eye:

I'd rather jump naked on a huge pile of thumbtacks
Or stick my nostrils together with Krazy-Glue
I'd rather dive into a swimming pool filled with
Double-edged razor blades
Than spend one more minute with you...

I walk in the air between the rain,
Through myself and back again.
Where? I don't know.

from "Round Here" by The Counting Crows

In the summertime, when all the trees and leaves are green
And the redbird sings, I'll be blue
'Cause you don't want my love ...
Some other time, that's what you say, when I want you
Then you laugh at me and make me cry
'Cause you don't want my love.
You don't seem to care a thing about me
You'd rather live without me, than to have my arms around you
When the nights are cold and you're so all alone
In the summertime, when all the trees and leaves are green
And the redbird sings, I'll be blue
'Cause you don't want my love.
Once upon a time, you used to smile and wave to me
And walk with me, but now you don't
'Cause you don't want my love ...
Some other guy is takin' up all your time
Now you don't have time for me
'Cause you don't want my love.
You don't seem to care a thing about me
You'd rather live without me, than to have my arms around you
When the nights are cold and you're so all alone
In the summertime, when all the trees and leaves are green
And the redbird sings, I'll be blue
'Cause you don't want my love.
--Roger Miller

Tonight I'm gonna have myself a real good time
I feel alive and the world it's turning inside out, yeah!
I'm floating around in ecstasy
So don't stop me now, don't stop me
'Cause I'm having a good time, having a good time

Two disappointed believers
Two people playing the game
Negotiations and love songs
Are often mistaken for one and the same

from "Train In The Distance" by Paul Simon

The passage of time
Is flicking dimly up on the screen
I cant see the lines
I used to think I could read between
Perhaps my brains have turned to sand

Oh me oh my
I think its been an eternity
Youd be surprised
At my degree of uncertainty
How can moments go so slow.

Several times
Ive seen the evening slide away
Watching the signs
Taking over from the fading day
Perhaps my brains are old and scrambled.

Several time
Ive seen the evening slide away
Watching the signs
Taking over from the fading day
Changing water into wine.

Several times
Ive seen the evening slide away
Watching the signs
Taking over from the fading day
Putting the grapes back on the vine.

(simultaneously with the last two verses, another voice sings another melodywith different words, as follows:)

Who would believe what a poor set of eyes can show you
Who would believe what an innocent voice could do
Never a silence always a face at the door.

Who would believe what a poor set of ears can tell you
Who would believe what a weak pair of hands can do
Never a silence always a foot in the door.

---Brian Eno

I enjoy all the songs from Air Supply, such as YOUNG LOVE, LOST IN LOVE, and MAKING LOVE OUT OF NOTHING AT ALL. I don't know the lyrics by heart, though.

You know, I was just marvelling at how really good these songs were/are the other day. I think for a while I was keeping Air Supply as one of my guilty pleasures. But c'mon, a person can't resist them. Well, maybe others can, but I can't.

My favorite of the ones you listed:

Lost in Love:

I realize the best part of love is the thinnest slice
And it dont count for much
But Im not letting go
I believe theres still much to believe in

So lift your eyes if you feel you can
Reach for a star and Ill show you a plan
I figured it out
What I needed was someone to show me

You know you cant fool me
Ive been loving you too long
It started so easy
You want to carry on

(chorus)
Lost in love and I dont know much
Was I thinking aloud and fell out of touch?
But Im back on my feet and eager to be what you wanted

So lift your eyes if you feel you can
Reach for a star and Ill show you a plan
I figured it out
What I needed was someone to show me

You know you cant fool me
Ive been loving you too long
It started so easy
You want to carry on

(chorus)
You know you cant fool me
Ive been loving you too long
It started so easy
You want to carry on

(chorus)
Now Im lost, lost in love, lost in love, lost in love
Now Im lost, lost in love, lost in love, lost in love
Lost in love, lost in love, lost in love
Lost in love, lost in love, lost in love

And some days it don't come easy,
And some days it don't come hard,
Some days it don't come at all, and these are the days that never end.

And some nights you're breathing fire.
And some nights you're carved in ice.
Some nights you're like nothing I've ever seen before or will again.....

....Anything for love,
Oh, I would do anything for love,
I would do anything for love,
But I won't do that.
No, I won't do that.

from "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" by Meatloaf

"Sweet dreams are made of this.
Who am I to disagree?
I traveled the world and the Seven Seas
Everybody's looking for something.

Some of them want to use you.
Some of them want to get used by you.
Some of them want to abuse you.
Some of them want to be abused."

Eurythmics
Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This

"With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse
If theres nothing in it
And youll ask yourself

Where is my mind
Where is my mind
Where is my mind . . . "

The Pixies
Where Is My Mind

It’s dusk as all the shadows fall
The sun is laid to rest
At night the city comes to life
As the light dies in the west
Here we stand as some local band
Sets circles ‘round the clock
Smoke so thick you need a lighthouse
So loud I can’t hear myself talk

Someone whispered in my ear
“It’s not like it was before”
I don’t know what happened here
I guess we just got bored
The good old days
Well I suppose, I’m glad they’re behind us now
The only thing worse than growing up
Is never quite learning how
Late at night we toss and we turn
Lay awake ‘til dawn
We close our eyes as the sun comes up we’re gone

-From a song called Absentminded Melody, by Joel Plaskett.

i go about my business, im doing fine, besides what would i say if i have you on the line, same old story now, much the same, hearts are broken everyday...

Over the years?

Wonder how long I've been listening to music.

Hmm.

"You're afraid of being alone
Cause I am
I'm lost with you
Your afraid of leaving tonight
Cause I am
I'm lost with you"

"Cause I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid
Asleep or dead
I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey if you stay you'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home"

"I don't know
And I can't guess if we're gonna be okay but now
My last wish is that you'll do this with me
Kiss me here
Hold my hand and let me feel like I'm the only one
I know you can won't you do it for me now."

"Where are you
And I'm so sorry
I cannot sleep
I cannot dream tonight
I need somebody and always
This sick strange darkness
Comes creeping on so haunting every time"

Is it getting better?
Or do you feel the same?
Will it make it easier on you now?
You got someone to blame
You say

One love
One life
When it's one need
In the night
One love
We get to share it
Leaves you baby if you
Don't care for it

-- One, U2 (it's in my profile too)

I go out seal hunting with my best friend Tarka
But all I wanna do is get into his parka
I'm the only gay eskimo
In my tribe

Good Lovin' Ain't Easy (To Come By)--Marvin Gaye & Tami Terrell

Good lovin ain't easy
Good lovin ain't easy
Good lovin ain't easy to come by
Oh darlin' not the kind you offer me
It's just not to be found
Cause we're working on a building
Nobody can tear down
Not what we got
Good lovin ain't easy
Good lovin ain't easy
Good lovin ain't easy to come by

No, no I've tried the good life
And I know it's a playground
Where no one cares
Fun and laughs you find out there
It don't compare to what we got
It takes more than just a song and dance
You've got to work and to fight
Give it a chance
But if the rain comes down on us
And there ain't no place to run
Girl we'll just cover ourselves
With a blanket of love
Wait till the morning comes
A blanket of tenderness and affection
Give us protection
Good lovin ain't easy to come by
Sometimes it's just a plaything you toss away
When it's old
But we know the value increases
And it's worth more than gold
That's what we got
It ain't easy to come by
Good lovin' ain't easy to come by

An interesting fact about this song: Tami Terrell was dying of brain cancer when this song was recorded. Valerie Simpson stepped in to finish the vocals.

My Pony Boy

Pony Boy, Pony Boy,
Won't you be my Pony Boy?
Don't say, "No", here we go, off across the plains.
Marry me, carry me,
ride away with you.
Giddy up, giddy up, giddy up, whoa!
My Pony Boy
Giddy up, giddy up, giddy up, whooooooa!
My Pony Boy

My dad used to sing me this song as he bounced me on his knee--when I was a little kid.
(Is that why I'm gay?) That is one of my earliest and best memories of my Dad, who died a long time ago.
