I have a resume and every time I use export to open it on a Windows machine the formatting is all messed up. I've tried changing the margins, but my formatting is still different and it's really frustrating and making it hard for me to work on my resume on my Mac.

I'm using Pages '08 version 3.0.3. I usually use either Word 2003 or Word 2007.

Any suggestions?

If you need more information, let me know.

Thanks in advance!

If you don't need to edit it on Win you could always export it as a pdf.

I usually edit it on Win too because it doesn't look the same on the Mac. On the Mac I always have margin issues and don't get enough space on the document. Plus, I assume most businesses use Word. I will keep the PDF option in mind.

Well what I'm saying is Word documents might not show up the same but a PDF will.

If all you are trying to do is make sure it is in the same format for any business that opens it then distributing it as a PDF would do that.

Any business can open PDFs.

Great, I'll do that!

Can you explain to me why there would be formatting differences? I don't really understand it since I set the margins the same on both Pages and Word.

Thanks for all your help!

Word export from Pages has always been a little touch-and-go with regard to precision formatting. As Hotlatboi says, the ideal way to distribute documents is using PDF - you're guaranteed of compatibility and appearance across all platforms, and no commercial software is required for viewing.

Star-Warrior, thanks for the idea. I'll try that.

Thanks for your help everyone else!

Microsoft tends to use non-standard, proprietary versions of document (and other) formats. It is often impossible to exchange a simple ascii text file between *nix computers and Word Pad on Windows because of this.

This is part of a long-standing campaign by Microsoft to lock customers into its ecosystem and encourage the use of only Microsoft products.
