I have a G4 MDD wind tunnel Mac. 1.5 gigs of ram. dual 867 processors. a 40, 60 and 250 gig drive. It's 4 years old. Never any problems. Never defrag. No virii, worms etc. It will boot into 9 which was important as my accounting was on a system 9 app, but I just hate to boot into 9 or run in classic as it is so slow. I'll give it a 10 out of 10 and for a 4 y/o machine it is still plenty fast for me. This baby is a keeper.;)

IBOOK WHITE G4 and a 20 G IPOD PHOTO unit. No problems so far and, although am mighty tempted to upgrade to the newer IBOOK with the built in camera and the 'sunk in' keyboard I am not in the financial position to do so at this moment in time. I am, however, AM going to upgrade soon to a new 30 G IPOD with video. When I get a better paying job with more disposable income at my leisure I will definately upgrade to a newer laptop but until then the G4 one is great.
I am pissed though that the new IPHONE will not be in Australia until 2008 at the earliest it seems. I was holding out on purchasing a new ipod for the sole purpose of getting the IPHONE, but since that is a long way off here I'll bite the bullet and get a new IPOD. Though knowing my luck the minute I have the money to buy a 30G one Apple will release a newer, more advanced version for the same price.

iMac 17-inch 1.83Ghz Intel Core Duo... got it today actually.

I'm a PC user for quite awhile now but I have a very old Mac PowerBook 190 here which amazingly is still working. It was made in 1996 I believe.

I got a new MacBook with 2 GHz Intel Core2Duo to replace my iBook. I also had a MacMini G4 for some time.

When I was a teenager (In the 80's), I would go next door to my neighbors and use their Mac.

When I saved up enough money to buy my own, I got a Performa 405 and have gradually worked my way up to the present.

I currently have an 21" imac G5.

I do use PC's at work but that is the only place that I will ever us a PC.

I have a 15" PowerBook G4 Titanium. I've had it since 2003. I'm thinking on geting a MacBook this year.

I was given a new Mac Notebook and have not taken it out of the package. I have never used a Mac (well last time was in 1988. So, any good resources on how to use one? Thanks.

Start by unpacking it. Then push the On/OFF button. It will greet you with a pleasant chime. Then complete the short welcome wizard and you're done!:gogirl:

Start with lonestar's instructions. They call it a migration assistant. There are no *wizzards* on Mac OSX. If you have firewire on your pc, it will make it easier. Or you can transfer over your ethernet and wireless router if you have one.
There is a good help menu for the OS as well as any applications specific to the Mac.
You used prolly system 6 or 7 in the old days. OSX is similar but way faster and rock solid.
If you get stuck just post here in the tech forum and put Mac in the title somewhere as windoze users still outnumber us.

am i allowed to download and use Internet Explorer 7 using a Mac?

MS Internet Explorer 7 is a Windows only Program. You can still use it on your mac, if you run WIndows XP via Bootcamp or Parallels

No, it is for windows. Try Safari, Camino, Firefox, iCab,Opera, Mozilla or Netscape. There is an old Internet Exploder 5.2.3 which is slow as hell and crashes. If you are using Safari, d/l Safari Enhancer. All this stuff is free.
I typically use Safari and my next choice is Camino which is real fast as well, and I also have Firefox which is slow but not as slow as IE

If you have an Intel Mac you can boot into windoze and d/l IE7 but why would you? Everybody seems to bitch about it.

SHEEP:

Where do I find Safari Enhancer?

I've been using Firefox with Fasterfox and have been pretty happy with it. I like Safari, but it's slower and I think Safari Enhancer might be worth a try.

Thru the power of google go to
http://www.celestialfrontiers.com/safari_enhancer.php

It adds functionality to Safari. For instance when you go to a page on the internet you can make it think you are running a different browser.
Firefox is slower than Safari or Camino but faster than IE on my G4DP with 1.5 gigs of ram running 10.4.8.

Version tracker is a great place to d/l software, much of it freeware.

As more universal binaries come on stream for the Intel Macs it's a good Idea to scan the list once a week. You can get on their mailing list. The reason to update for these machines is the old apps are running under Rosetta which slows things down a bit. They were originally written for the IBM chip. Apple has completed their transition to universal binaries so Intel Mac users have a great experience with their software.

MacIntouch is a daily news update on Mac stuff. Its good to be informed
