MacBook Pro not delivering..

Whenever I pick my early 2011 macbook pro up or tilt it from one side to the other, it makes this clicking sound. Almost like a "tick" My sister's boyfriend's does the same, so Im assuming it's normal?

Also, just a question on battery life- how long does yours last with decent usage. My battery is in "normal" condition. Only about 5 months old, but I get about 3 hours when watching youtube videos/ internet or itunes and internet at full screen brightness. Is it unreasonable to expect more?

I have a 2 year product service plan from Future Shop, so I might go to them and get it cleaned up.

Nope, I bought it about a month ago when my Macbook Air broke. It was a floor model, hence why it came with a free 2 year warranty. It was still over $1200, so I do expect more. Im definitely going in tomorrow, its just so hard because I can't be without her ... 3/4 of my life is on this thing. Sad, I know.

Yeah if you have a warranty take it in and have them look at it. I have a friend who works for Apple and they will take it in and they will try to fix it, if it's unable to be fixed they will replace it from what he told me.

Another thing- the Mag safe light doesnt always light up.. it shows charging in my menu, but sometimes the light doesnt show up..

Completely off topic, but I've always had fantasies about Justin Long, the mac guy from the "buy a mac" commercials, and Bruce Willis, after seeing Live Free or Die Hard.

As for the ticking sound in your laptop, it could be a fan that's not mounted properly, and when you turn the notebook on its side it goes all wonky and the fan blades start clicking against something (like a wire or piece of plastic).

Or it could be the hard drive but you would hear that ticking all the time, regardless of what position the notebook is in. Not to mention the hard drive would not be working, period.

And a final word of advice, if you do send it into the repair shop make sure you've backed up all your data off of your hard drive. Don't be surprised that when you get your notebook back you'll have a fresh install of whatever OS on it.

He is pretty cute Too bad they aren't doing anymore buy a mac commercials.

I am thinking its the hard drive, but could be a loose part too. I would die if this hard drive stopped working that would be the second Mac this year

I hear a click when I significantly move my MacBook Pro. When I say significantly, I mean if I move it really quick or sit it down on the table quick. I only hear one click sound and just assume it is the head parking on the drive to prevent platter damage.

Have you calibrated your MacBook's battery? It is on Apple's knowledge base.

Full screen brightness kills Macbook Pros. Do you have your keyboard backlight all the way up too? That certainly doesn't help. Try dimming the screen and keyboard lighting.

Also, the maglight chargers for the new generation of Macbooks are notoriously bad. It's a problem with the charger themselves, not the computer. If the light sometimes doesn't go on, but still charges, that's ok. You run into problems (like I did...) when it just refuses to charge unless the cord is stretched a certain way. The good news is that Apple will replace the charger with or without warranty no questions asked unless it has visible signs of damage.

The ticking is the hard drive. Mine does that too. Its supposed to do that. (Its part of the fall protection system that prevents the hard drive from being damaged)

The usage you're describing is HEAVY usage, not decent. Flash videos and iTunes usage consume battery very quickly. If I'm watching a lot of flash videos my battery will die quickly as well. With normal usage (e.g. occasional YouTube or other CPU-heavy tasks, and internet browsing) how long is your battery lasting?

Yup. This freaked me out at first because my first MacBook didn't do it. But its totally normal. I'd be more concerned if it WASN'T doing this.

Thats true, I know its is pretty intensive, but I thought I would be getting at around 4 hours.
Hard to say, but right now screen brightness is 75% bright and im only on Google Chrome and it says 5 hours.

I know the screen brightness is bad, but I just prefer a brighter screen, didn't think it would impact it that much! Keyboard backlight is never on. Thank for all your help!

it not vibration or suddens a movement protection?
beside faulty model rule thumb all computer ans hardware etc is faulty by default

The ticking sound is normal, it's the hard drive shutting down. Apple has a built in system that tests for rapid movement and shuts down the hard drive if the laptop "falls", preventing any data corruption/damage to the hard drive.

The ticking you hear is as Puff states.

The technical explanation is; an accelerometer detecting g-forces beyond the safety threshold. The HDD is told to park it's heads as there may be a pending impact event. The head armature "ticks" when parked to its safe position.
