Madonna or Whitney Houston.

Madonna - definitely! She's had amazing staying power - because she is constantly "re-inventing herself" ... and she's always controversial - plus she's got the talent behind it all!

Whitney - just got too far "off track" - for so long. It was such a shame that she started out SO strong - and had such an amazing career going - then to have it all go downhill when she married .... that .... "person" that she married! Hopefully, she will be able to get her act together and make a return. She is a really amazing talent - too bad she hasn't stayed on track and became even more of a success! I hope that she does well ... if it's not too late!

I think they are both very talented - each in their own right!
Madonna knows how to market herself to the masses. Whitney has the raw talent - if she would just harness it better and use her gift to it's maximum benefit!
 
Here's a news update. A friend of mine told me that on a recent episode of that Perez Hilton show that's aired on either E! Entertainment or VH1, that Perez was doing a brief interview with Ray J and according to Ray J himself, he said that he and Whitney were only having a platonic relationship, that they were just friends...well that's contrary to what some showbiz websites were trying to say that he and Whitney were more than just friendly to each other.

Madonna Has An Extreme Amount Of Talent, you just have to look a little deeper, Madonna Co-writes 98% of her songs, whitney didnt even co-write on a song until "Queen Of The Night" off Bodyguard, IMO, Madonna Is More Talented Than Whitney Houston Will Ever Be, Madonna Has The Whole Package, She Can Dance, She Can Write Big Hits, She Can Act, And Yes, She Can Sing!

I prefer Whitney. Madonna is a great artist but I just can't get over Whitney's voice! It's so powerful!

They both have their downsides though.
 
Okay, i was born at the time that both of their careers were starting, and i have albums by both of them. But it is without even the slightest shadow of a doubt, that Madonna is the queen of the world. Her Madgesty may not be the greatest singer (Whitney's voice is clearly much better) but she has enough of everything that makes a star, and that soething extra that keeps us enthralled with her, to make her the hands down winner in this contest.
 
So I went and listened to both ladies' music and I stand by my original post: Whitney owns Madonna. Madonna's best song (imo 'Like a Prayer') is one of the best songs of all time but it just doesn't stand up to Whitney's best song (imo 'I Have Nothing').
 
I remember late last year, the media announced that Whitney's album was planned to be out this spring, but now Clive Davis made an official announcement that her album will be out in November.

Darn it! Like everybody else, I so wanted to see a Whitney vs. Madonna chart battle in every country around the world, it's just too bad that it's not gonna happen.
 
i love Maddie, she is my idol but I have nothing horrible to say about Whitney.............good luck to you girl!
 
Madonna is the consummate performer in that she dances, sings, and provides visual effects while being consistently cutting edge as well as provocative in both sound and personality (and she's a much more vocal advocate for gays). She's probably done more to show that women can be just as powerful and sell huge quantities of CD's as men can. And NO ONE has shown greater ability to manipulate the media better than she has! Whitney, however, needs none of the above as her voice stands alone and is singular in recorded sound. Her sheer talent says all that is necessary to garner and maintain the public's respect. On singing ability, Whitney will trump Madonna every time but choosing between these two is like having to choose between your children.
