OK so New Seasons, Trader Joes and Whole Foods here in Portland, never had the option of plastic bags for grocery shoppers. Now a major Kroger store, Fred Meyer has banned plastic bags!!! That's huge news!!! A major national grocery store chain has decided it's Portland stores will ban plastic bags!!! Portland, along with the rest of the state of Oregon is thinking about banning plastic bags altogether. I say DO IT!!!

In a perfect system, I'd always bring my canvas bag when shopping, but if not I opt for paper only. Hopefully soon this will be a law in my state!!!

The level of testosterone in this thread is just reaching all kinds of record-setting heights.

Up here in the frozen tundra of Canuckistan, our major grocers and almost all other stores have essentially done away with plastic bags over a year ago. You can still get them, but you pay for them now.

Most people have re-usable shopping bags, although some still apparently like to buy the plastic bags.

you have to pay for them here for years .. i can't even really remember when you use to get them for free.

anyway .. if you can still get them, but need to pay for them. they are not banned, are they?

lol, the whole foods in my area back in NorCal, decided to do a test, where they took away all the plastic bags for one day and told the shoppers to either bring their own, buy a reusable one from them, or go home and cry.

A lot of people just ended up buying their reusable one...

Be nice to him, Blanche. Anyone who cares about the environment as much as he does can't be that bad...and one should always be nice to a guy who can recommend the best skin care products and knows where to get high-quality grass. lol
If I weren't in this chair, I couldn't do all these awful things to her!

Wait a minute... :confused::help:

Gah! And that's supposed to say co-co, not so-op. stupid fat fingers.

I have no issue with canvas bags, but it pisses me off that they want us to buy them with their logo on them. Sell me a plain canvas bag and I will buy a few, until then I will keep using plastic until I can't.

I have about five or six canvas sacks that I keep in my trunk at all times.

With just a little re-thinking, it's easy to get in the habit of using them all the time. Not just at the supermarket but most anywhere you buy stuff...

There's enough of those damned plastic bags on the planet to fill up the grand canyon, and they will still be here long after we've gone... #-o

The best thing about plastic bags are they are great for dog poop.

yup... I have a large dog and I refuse to let her poop sit on other peoples lawns, so I get the plastic bags when I go to the grocery for that reason.

But up here there are ALOT of people that use the canvas bags.

I think the only major grocer who still uses plastic bags in Portland is Safeway, and who the hell shops at Safeway??? ugh!!! That store is so gross.

I took my canvas bag and my reusable six pack of wine bag to Freddie's tonight. I save a nickel for the canvas bag and 10% on the wine!!! No plastic and I save money!!!

I am all for being green but when I spend in excess of $200 in supplies and clearly am unable to carry it all in my arms, some 15 year-old asking me "and did you want a plastic bag for 10c each" really REALLY pisses me off!
