Half an hour from now the report drops.

In advance:

— The long awaited Pentagon “Don’t ask, don’t tell” survey will be released today and the results are expected to show that a large majority of those surveyed don’t object to gay men and women serving openly. Just about everyone supports the repeal of the discriminatory DADT policy, except for a handful of elderly homophobic senators led by John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC). Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen supports repeal, as well as President Obama. And a majority of Americans, even right-wing evangelicals support ending DADT

http://chattahbox.com/us/2010/11/30/dadt-report-favors-repeal-but-will-gop-homophobes-accept-it/

So how will the apologists for the party of No manage to invalidate the report?

Thoughts please.

And how will the reactionary element on this forum manage to reconcile their support for a party that appears to be dead set against their civil rights?

And from the idiot asshat McCain:

But the report itself — even if its findings indicate that repeal is feasible — might not be enough to win key GOP votes.

That's because some prominent Republicans — including Sen. John McCain, the top Republican on the Senate panel on military issues — believe that the report itself is flawed and should not be used as justification for the repeal.

McCain argues that the Pentagon's study does not directly ask military personnel "whether" the policy should be repealed, but rather assumes that the policy will be abolished and merely addresses the question of "how."

And from the idiot asshat McCain:

Yea, McCain's a real scumbag and has been acting like the number one opponent to military service men and women, gay AND straight.

"The military is at its highest point in recruitment, in retention, in professionalism, in capability," McCain said on CNN's "State of the Union." "So to somehow allege that this policy has been damaging the military is simply false."

He doesn't mention the suicide rates of military vets. At one point I thought this guy was at least decent.

The only reason anyone has for still opposing repeal is personal homophobia, but since that's not very PC, except to see it dressed up as any number of other excuses.

He's flip-flopped on so many issues, he hardly even exists. I don't give a flying bleep if he was a POW for seven years. As far as I'm concerned, he's still fighting the Viet Nam War!

'Don't ask, don't tell' report: Little risk to allowing gays to serve openly

The Pentagon's long-awaited report on gays in the military concludes that repealing the 17-year-old "don't ask, don't tell" law would present only a low risk to the armed forces' ability to carry out their mission and that 70 percent of service members believe it would have little or no effect on their units, according to sources briefed on the report's findings.

The conclusions published in Tuesday's report give a boost to President Obama and congressional Democrats seeking to eliminate the ban before the end of the year and undercut the arguments of social conservatives and lawmakers, including Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who believe ending the law would harm the military as it conducts two wars.

ITA agreement with you. Sorry, being a war hero is not an automatic shield if you are being a bigot, which is exactly what McCain is. A bigot who is willing to do or say anything to stay in office.

He's just gotten re-elected to yet another 6 year term. So, I don't think this qualifies as pandering to the conservative base, exactly. I do respect his service to his country. But he's being an asshole about DADT. Another argument for term limits.

It's why they need to institute an age limit for public office. I can somewhat look the other way on term limits but when you're double dipping in a public office, (we had a huge case about it in MA over a sheriff collecting pension ($98k/year) and still working as a sheriff ($200k/year). The governor basically forced him to resign over the issue and then he subsequently committed suicide a month later), I draw the line there.

I will never forget during the president election when he was asked the common joke question "Boxers or briefs?" McCain's response, "Depends". Still makes me laugh every time.

Fox News military analyst supports repeal of DADT.

I'm not sure his answer pleased the finger puppet bingo callers at FOX.

They are talking right now about ALL of the pugs have signed a letter to block all bills that do not address taxes and spending.
Bullshit I say!

America held hostage by the Republicans again.

Who voted these criminals into office anyway?

Pixel, Eddy, Laika, Supersix, Mazda, Chance and a host of others who believe that pocketbook issues are paramount have made sure that the US gets the government it apparently deserves instead of the legislative leadership it needs.

That's not entirely correct. They are going to block anything other than the tax and funding the government issues until they are resolved. Once they are squared away, everything else can be considered.

They're pretty much running the table.

The republicans appear to be addressing what they perceive to be the concerns of most Americans. I agree that DADT is important to us and most people do support our view. It's just that DADT doesn't show up on the radar of important issues on most people's minds. I looked at a bunch of polling and didn't see a word about it.

I guess that means we'll be addressing DADT sometime around the year 3050.

Yeah. With them giving tax breaks to millionaires is the #1 issue in the country instead of giving all Americans equal rights & throwing unemployed people out in the streets right before Christmas by denying them their unemployment benefits.

These Jubbers you mentioned.... how will their lives improve now that they elected these people in? Are they millionaires who will get this tax break?

The majority has spoken. But we are ruled by the minority of the GOP and Religious Right.

That may be fortunate. DADT is an amendment to an appropriations bill. ..|
