The media tends to paint the picture darkly.

The truth is, much progress is made and gets too little attention.

Post something that is progressive, about society, about economy, about environmentalism, about nature, about anything. We are progressing. Let's read about it.

My offering is that the cancer survival rate has improved. Whether it is proportionate to the money spent is another question, but it has improved.

In my lifetime, the UK has brought the age of consent for gay sex into line with the age for straight sex. Previously 21, it's now 16 for everyone.

The UK has also introduced same sex marriage. The legislation was passed for England and Wales in 2013. Scotland and Northern Ireland (in the latter case probably kicking and screaming) subsequently followed suit.

The Kendeda Fund has died, in the sense that the philanthropist donating the funds set a goal to give it all away within her lifetime to see more good done sooner.

The founder, Diana Blank, gave away more than one billion dollars. Her wealth came via her divorce from her husband, the founder of Home Depot, as stock.

Her vision included climate change and land conservation, the rights of women and girls, gun violence prevention, racial and economic justice in Atlanta, and more.

In this world, there are the good, and the great, and few who do great good. Diana Blank seems to be in that small number.

The second video is the full version of the Panis Angelicus. She performed until age 99. The next time I hear an excellent senior perform, I may have to ask, "Who do you think you ARE? Magda Olivero?!" :LOL:


There is another vid of her singing an Ave Maria coupled with the Panis Angelicus, but there is a woman in the background who is clearly not a fan and keeps photo-bombing her.

OK, while that is still not true, we are seeing some progress, and lapel cameras are effecting change.

Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley refused to stop when being directed by a cop, as she was going 20 miles over the 35 mph speed limit. The cop had to follow her to her home and then hear her argue that he shsouldn't be ticketed because she was the DA and it would only come to her anyway.

It was shameful.

The governor of NY has initiated an investigation. This woman is SO toast. She SHOULD be arrestef for flight and failure to comply with the arresting officer.

True that, but one also must include the skewed effect of the reported rate not including those not seeking employment.

Why can't the rate simply be the absolute percentage of the adult population that is not working? That number would capture the retired, the disabled, the imprisoned, and all the rest. It would be a much more telling data point about how many working people are directly or indirectly supporting the unworking population.

That would be the labor participation rate (which doesn’t include the inistutionalize) which currently stands at 62.7%, seems kinda low but if they counted those who have 2 or more jobs as having more than one job a more impressive number would surely result.

This is from 2020, but seeing it now, I'm not inspired about Buttigieg's chances or acumen as much as I am by the crowd's suppression of a nasty heckler by civil methods.

Chanting positivity in rebuttal is the perfect response until he could be removed (since he had no intention of allowing Pete to speak and since it was a private event he was interrupting).
