Male Cosmetics

Back in my nightclubbing days, I wore foundation for my shiny forehead and, this sounds gross, I found a nude lipstick and I would wear that to the club. I have dark circles and I wore it also for that reason.

I had a friend who also had acne and . . . oh yeah, Ive used foundation too . . . he would wear foundation and powder to cover his acne.

Gigi's mom is Yolanda Hadid, who married composer David Foster

They divorced and David married Katherine McPhee. She was on American Idol. Now the host of that was . . .

(why are photos SO big??!!)

John Wayne and Clint Eastwood et al. may be human, but they're not people like me and you. Well, like me and the rest of the posters here.
You mean they never were gay. That's my point.

Dont want to leave you hanging . . .

They all do look better to me in the "after" photos.

It was six degrees of Kevin Bacon ;-) One lead into the other

I went on a tangent!!

Back to cosmetics . . .

Back to cosmetics indeed.

During this morning's Meet The Press, one panelist was Eugene Daniels from Politico. He is one of the few prominent national political pundits who is openly gay. The only reason I know, is that the camera could not resist zooming in from behind him repeatedly on the show in a manner that drew attention to his socklessness in dress attrire, and more distractingly, his painted fingernails.

It is a timely thing, as yesterday I ate lunch out and one of the servers was a young man who had light blue glitter polish on his fingernails, and a flush of tatoos on his forearms and hands which may have been Wiccan symbols.

I was glad that a young male server in Alabama was comfortable doing so, but didn't have a chance to ask him about his tattoos, as he was waiting on another station and only brought my salad since my server was attending my zone.

Getting back to Daniels, his nails did not have the effect of making him look particularly feminine, but unquestionably signalling gay to onlookers. More to the point, they were painted in banded colors of black, white, and ochre. It occurred to me that the problem with painted fingernails for men is not that it calls into view one's orientation, but that it immediately calls into question one's judgement and credibility.

If you're a public figure, especially one in the public eye for some intellectual reason like politics, journalism, science, law, etc., appearing to prioritize self-decoration to the point of almost doodling with nail polish is more often received as silly than brave. It would be no different than a leader, executive, or ruler having a face tattoo of Donald Duck on his forehead or cheek. Yes, it's personal fashion. No, it's not possible for the majority of society to not be affected by their perception of that. If anything, the individual choosing to "mohawk" his fashion is intentionally pushing that aspect forward.

I forgot to post a pic. I don't have one of Daniels with the distracting paint, just this one of the happy couple with muted nail paint:

I noticed that the nail polish matched his jacket. If it was acceptable for men to wear nail polish (it almost is) he would be impeccably groomed, like a woman wearing shoes that match her dress.

But it isn't relevant to male cosmetics, the stated theme of the thread. The posts got off track earlier. The topic is good, so let's keep it on topic.

Men don't inherently look horrific, nor do women who look masculine. The Statue of Liberty is a good case in point. She looks like she could have defeated the Bri'ish, if not been one herself.
