Maleficent

I saw this last night and I have to say I enjoyed Angelina Jolie but the film is unbelievably insulting.
It is too bad because it could have been so much more and could have benefited from not trying to tie itself to the classic Disney film.
But, they had to go there and in doing so, this film renders the original classic film as a lie.

Its basically a bitchy steaming pile of feminazi propaganda which has no place in a Disney film.
How the execs allowed this to happen, I don't know.

So now every time I watch the original animated film, I'll think about how much of a miserable shit hole the Kingdom actually is and how the 3 fairies are actually brow beaten slaves for the Kingdom.

Anyway, I give is 1 star for Angelina Jolie's performance, everything else was crap.

So, are they now going to take a giant shit on every classic Disney film from now on?

The upcoming Cinderella will probably have Cindy running off with one of her mice friends who magically turns into Zac Efron at the end or something silly like that...

Good day everyone. :P

The more they try to make sense of these children's fairy tales, the sillier they become.
I wonder what movie started this Classic-Tale-With-A-Twist...was it "Enchanted"?

I must say that the unusual way of portraying certain fairy tale characters worked very well for SHREK i.e. the Fairy Godmother, Prince Charming and Humpty Dumpty as the story's antagonists - but that was comical, not dramatic or sinister.

Maleficent really didn't need her "own" story because she already had plenty of screentime in the Disney animated movie (much more than the wicked fairy from the traditional Sleeping Beauty versions).
A simple animation-to-live-action movie would have been wonderful IMO. It's no surprise that many people loved the Christening scene taken from the original movie (yeah, thanks for the totally misleading trailers!)
Remember 101 Dalmatians with Glenn Close? I thought it was awesome.

The main problem with Maleficent is that the movie totally contradicts itself.
They're creating this wicked appearance of Maleficent while she's more like the victim dressed up as a demonic fairy.
It does not make sense at all and it really takes the wickedness out of it.

This project started in 2012 and I get the feeling there have been some serious re-writings going on during that time.
Maybe eventually they thought - enough time and money spent on this, let's get it out and just hope for the best.
At the risk of upsetting the Jolie fanboys and girls, as the lead actress and co-producer I DO hold her (partially) responsible for this mess.

Without taking this movie too seriously, I have to say I did enjoy the movie for what it was: a fluffy, entertaining piece. AJ kicked ass and took names as she usually does and there were some surprisingly funny and heartfelt moments. Ok Ok, so I might be a softie...

Angelina Jolie did a great job but I do not like how they story strayed away from the animated Sleeping Beauty.

They literally said that the story if from Maleficent´s point of view.
It´s called Maleficent.
You know, the main character.
It makes the movie different.

If they did this they should have called it Sleeping Beauty. I like the fact that she makes the comment in the narration that the story was told by one side and this is the other side of it. That is true in actual history, so it makes sense.

Didn't love it but wasn't the worst movie i've ever seen. Hoped for a little more action.

I have reservations about it. The film looks beautiful and Jolie is always amazing, but it was written by Linda Woolverton whose rehash of Alice in Wonderland was such a travesty.

I had a plethora of beefs with that Alice in Wonderland. Rest assured Maleficent is nothing like that movie.

Fairy tales, myths and classic children's literature is one of my hobbies. You complain about the original Sleeping beauty and having the children's fairy tail stray - are you aware sleeping beauty was raped by her 'prince charming' and bore twins while 'asleep'? Oh, and did I mention cannibalism? It ain't exactly innocent and Disney (among others) already butchered it to hell and back.

Oh they should definitely do a movie of the original version! Wasn't it the Prince's mother who wanted to eat her grandchildren?

As for fairy tale remakes, I really liked Snow White - A Tale Of Terror.
