  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

"Man Cave" -- a new JUB forum for masculine gay men

I just think it would be cool to have a section free from posts discussing what type of makeup to wear on what occasion, or how gay the new madonna or gaga video is, or how hard it is to date hairdressers. I know none of that crap pertains to my life. I'd rather hang out in a section where other gay men talk about lawncare, home repair, hiking, pet care, etc. Not have to feel weird posting in Hot Topics that I could use tips on laying thinset under cementboard for my diy tile project this sunday. A section for that type of thing would't hurt I'd think.

Amen, hunny!! ..|

(*8*)

Um........I mean, amen. ..|

Because you can already talk about all of these "masculine" topics in this forum?

What's stopping anyone from starting a thread about any of those subjects you already mentioned? Hell, we already have a sports forum and nobody fucking posts in there.

Hmm.........that's an interesting point you bring up.

I think it would be a good idea to merge the "Sports" forum and include it within the "Man Cave" forum.

The "Man Cave" could be a forum where gay men can discuss sports, cars, motorcycles, trucks, car repair, guns, camping, hiking, backpacking, etc etc.

It would be nice so that guys who want to discuss football, good hiking trails in the Sequoia National Forest, what kinds of guns they like, etc.........don't have to sift through Lady Gaga & makeup/fashion-related threads.

Plus gay guys who don't have any interest in sports, cars, guns, hiking, construction, etc. don't have to waste their time sifting through threads they have no interest in either.

We get to talk about cars? Yay! So, about that new plug-in Prius...

Wait! Oops! Is my gay showing?

"Afraid" to start threads here? WTF? I've never seen anyone get insulted for starting a thread that was "too masculine" or whatever.

Are you kidding me?? You yourself called me "JayQueen" in this very thread...

The first thing that a lot of gay guys do when another gay man tries to assert his masculinity is call him a "queen"..

You might head over to straightacting.com if you feel that only manly men can be trusted to have an on-topic discussion about cars and guns. Good luck over there, that place is a pain in the ass.

So to want to talk about "masculine" topics is now a bad thing? Seriously??

No, it's not a bad thing. But you can talk about those subjects in this forum.

So what if you're a total queen, if you feel the need to talk about your new ford truck you'd be able to, or talk about turkey hunting (something my bf is thinking of trying out) and not have to post it in a catch-all section where it'd get lost in the mess of other random posts. How is that idea missing the mark?

How difficult is it to subscribe to topics you find interesting and add in relevant posts when you feel like it?

I understand that it can be a pain in the ass to find topics that you might find interesting depending on your interests, but there's no reason why you can't use the search function to find them and respond to them.

so I'd be AFRAID to post my type of threads here in this section.

This is ridiculous and overdramatic. No one is stopping you from making threads on the topics you like and by not making these threads you're making it more difficult for those who would like to talk about laying tile or other things to have a discussion about these topics.

The difference between having a specific fashion forum, and a specific masculine forum, is that fashion is a specific subject. Masculinity isn't it only has what certain cultures deem masculine as guidelines. And we should all know that cultural sterotypes and gender norms only serve to create conflict.

My bottom line is, who the fuck is anyone to define what is masculine or manly, and what would go in that forum. If you want a car forum go to a car forum, if you want a handyman forum good, go there. if you want a gay community forum, you're here. deal with it.

I disagree.

I think it would be nice to have a forum where gay guys can talk about things ranging from cars to camping to guns to DIY home repair. These are topics that are often not emphasized in the gay male community.

If the "Sports" forum needs to be expanded to include topics like automotive, outdoor recreation, guns/artillery, etc. then that's fine. At least there would be a dedicated forum for guys who want to talk about a lot of the same kinds of things that straight men like to talk about, BUT without the gay-bashing and homophobia.

Yes, there are other websites & forums on the internet where you can talk about special interests like cars or handiwork, but as they are dominated by straight men, they are not often gay friendly.

I have visited car enthusiast forums where guys make stupid comments like "that's so gay" or "only a f@ggot would drive that car", and the moderators on those forums just let those comments stand. In some cases, the mods even join in with the homophobic commentary. In a Mercedes-Benz car forum I saw a while ago, they were talking about same-sex marriage, and one man who said he was straight said that he supported gays being able to marry. Everyone else called him a "f@ggot" and told him he "really liked taking it up the @ss".

So do it! post away, emphasize it! why do you need a specific forum labaling it as masculine. You can post that stuff right here without having to wave a banner, "oh look how masculine making something out of wood is!"

Wow talk about a bunch of bitchy, snotty, holier than thou queens (and you wonder why I'm afraid of posting anything unrelated to stereotypical gay fem bullshit). If it isn't related to madonna, gay fashion, buttsex on boats, what killed whitney, or being a general flamer it's bad, bad, bad, and we should just go away.

Talk about being bashed for being fem, now it's being bashed by gays for being a masculine gay. Wonder why I don't consider myself part of the gay community, because it's filled with prissy little asshats who think the world revolves around their toy poodles and what new undies are in stock at abercrombie.

Half the posts in here are already in the wrong forum, many should already be filed under the Entertainment section, Coming out/Relationships/Bisex section, and a bunch that should be in a Mental Health section, if there was one. That's why it's so hard to keep track of anything worthwhile.

I'll just get back into the closet, since seems the gays here only want one certain brand of Super Out there Gayness. Might as well delete my account while I'm at it, seems useless posting on the board. I'll just go to a straight site and pretend I'm not gay. How 2012!!!

Nobody is bashing masculine gays. The question is why can't these topics be discussed in the same place as 'feminine' things? there is no forum on here called the queens cave. it can all be discussed in one place, without the need to label, and divide, and create rifts in the community. get over yourself.

THE BEST POST OF THE YEAR ON JUB

I'm laughing so hard right now, because it is so true.... :=D:

LOL

I see nothing particularly wrong with including more forums for different topics if there is enough of a following. I don't think there would be any reason to call any of them the "Man Cave," though. This entire place is basically a man cave since 99% of the members are men (yes, feminine men are still men).

Why not just discuss the possibility of a Home Improvement forum or a Vehicles forum and avoid all the unnecessary masculine/feminine arguments that always seem to crop up around here?

True. I just came up with the phrase "Man cave" because I was looking for a "catch-all" phrase that would refer to a forum containing interests from sports/athletics to automotive to guns/artillery to outdoor recreation to auto repair to home repair, etc.

Oh sooo F-ing politically correct. It's not dividing anyone by having a section of types of conversations that, wait for it, all go together. It's called common sense, which it seems is a scarce commodity around here. They are All subjects that do not fit in here currently. If you think wanting conversations about cars, fishing, biking, DIY, and hunting in one place as "creating a rift in the community" then you seriously need some mental help.

You need to learn to read, you can't pick out one part of my argument to use in yours. go back and re-read what I said.

Instead of making trouble by starting yet another masculine/feminine argument that always seems to crop up around here, why not just discuss the possibility of a Home Improvement forum or a Vehicles forum?

Good point.

But then we would need a "Gun shooters forum" and an "Outdoor recreation" forum, etc. It would get messy really quick with too many forums.

I think a better idea might be to just expand the "Sports" forum and call it the "Athletics, Home Improvement, & Recreation" forum -- and that could include everything from automotive to home improvement to guns/artillery to outdoor recreation (hiking, camping, etc) to sports.

^This, is the right idea.
