No Telstra. Maher and Harris were conflating one thing with another and then breezily coming up with hundreds of millions of people who apparently would represent some existential threat to civilization. Affleck saw the grotesque failure of the logic in this. So did I and a lot of other people as well. It is clear that Maher hates Islam as much as he hates all religions, so no one is going to get a pass from him.

But it is the same fallacy that Grimshaw promotes on this site....that the actions of the merest few hundred or even a few thousands of 1.5 billion adherents to Islam immediately moves them all into the same 'other' realm as all the populations that get targeted by race hate and bigotry.

At one time it was the Jews. Still is the blacks. It can be the Japanese. Or the Chinese. Or Roma. Or homosexuals. Or protestants. Or Catholics. Or Hindus. Or Sikhs. Or Indians. Or communists. World history is just a map of shifting targets for others' fear and loathing. Because when some millions of people start to think that their fear justifies action against their perceived enemies...the result is a human conflagration that resolves nothing as we then move onto our next target.

To be absolutely honest, I don't see what this thread actually does to further the subject beyond all the other threads on this topic that have been started in Hot Topics week after week year after year except to provide spectator sport as Jubbers with differing views battle it out again. We just had Grimshaw's thread on Affleck et al a few days ago. There are at least two or three new threads on ISIS here every week.

It isn't as though for the group of posters left on this forum that we are changing our minds or even looking to change anyone else's. If anything, the endless urse fights over Islam make Hot Topics seems pretty toxic to posters looking to have fun in HT.

I still see the Danish Cartoon affair and the Satanic versus affair are major crimes done by the Islamist which has not been settled yet as no one has been prosecuted. What are the crimes? The crimes are the extremists are getting away with hate speeches, thats my honest opinion.

Also where did Bill Maher or Sam Harris or anyone important say "ALL" muslims did this or that? I didn't hear it.

I am right about Ben Affect and a lot of people agree with me.
People are tip toeing around 1 religion but not tip toeing about other religions. Double standard much.

The guy still throws out terms like 'so called extremism'.

Any thing less than Sharia law by his definition isn't true Islam. He has a binary view of religion.
In his view of the Muslim world, you seem to be either:
A) a barbaric murderer operating under Sharia law, or
B) not a proper Muslim

He keeps quoting statistics to suggest the majority of the billion plus Muslim people in the world belong in section A.
He's not particularly credible.

A brief look at history shows that some of the 20th centuries worst conflicts, involving humanities worst atrocities, were led by non-Muslim countries. WWI with 37 million deaths, WWII with 60 million deaths including the holocaust and death camps, Communist mass killings resulted in 80-100 million deaths.

Buddist, Communist, Muslim and Christian countries have all engaged in atrocities on a grand scale over a short period of history.

Well the bible and the Quaran give cover to extremism.
That is why to tactle the root cause is to make sure that there is no hiding place for extremists, the bible, Quran and any religious books must be treated as fairy tales (until they can prove their supernatural claims are true).

People keep comparing Nazism, communism is unfair and stupid and both Nazism and communism are already solved. Desert religions on the other hands created problems for over 2000 years and is still on going. Christianity pokes its ugly head and cause problems in Africa/Uganda at the moment.

The point is, people incite whatever their belief system is to inspire hatred.
In the case of Maher and Harris, they're Atheists.
Opportunistically they are blaming religion as the root of all evil.

But most of the terrorists acts are done by muslims. Big difference.
