I Finally Watched it this week, and i absolutely Loved it, Marie Antoinette Has Always Fascinated Me, I Just Loved How the soundtrack was comprised of entirely 80s New Wave Music , From Siouxise & The Banshees, To The Cure, To Gang of Four, It Blended Perfectly Into The Stylish Atmosphere of The Film, A Visually Stunning Picture, From the Lavish Parties, Over the top hair-do's, The Pastel Colored Clothes, Just A Brilliant Film in My Opinion, I reccomend it.

Any one have any opinions on the film?

I really enjoyed it... the costumes alone were an absolute orgasm, and the guy playing Count Fersen was just... mph! I'm a big fan of Kirsten Dunst, too. And I agree about the soundtrack, I bought it just after seeing the movie and really like it.

I loved this movie. If you like Marie Anoinette you should rent "The Affair of the Necklace", that was fierce too!

I still gotta see this movie. I love Kirsten Dunst alot and I think shes a awesome actress.

I'm sorry to say but the movie had no point or plot to it at all
it was basically just kirsten dunst flopping around and partying

aside from that the movie had beautiful imagery and scenery
that's about it for me : /

You're right & I'm no history buff, But isn't that what Marie A was known for? Just slacking off & enjoying luxuries while the people were getting increasingly more broke, starving, etc; hence they rebelled against her and the kingdom?

I enjoyed the film, and I especially liked how they worked in the "I Want Candy" song LoL

You Have to look deeper to see the point of the film, it wasnt about Politics or a Full Life Biography, it represented how young Marie Antoinette Was when she came into Power, and how she handled her responsibilites as the Queen Of France, The Partying, The Gambling, and The Spending All reflected upon how Young At Heart She Was, Which Eventually led To Her Downfall......

It was pretty.

But nothing happened! The acting was horrible, and the script was nonexistent.

And I didn't like the music. I love most of the artists featured in the film, esp Siouxsie, but I thought the movie tried too hard to target young hipsters.

And I didn't even get to see the annoying bitch get guillotined! wtf...

An overall boring film thats all style and absolutely no substance.

LatinoStar i agree with you completly. i loved it. i saw it in theaters, then bought it on dvd. true it lacked plot, but it was visually well done, and i enjoyed it for that fact.

It looks and sounds like it could be a good movie.

But for those of you who don't know, Marie Antoinette did not say "Let them eat cake."

Yeah, it was Maria Theresa Of Spain i think.

But for those who really dont like the movie all that well, check out the soundtrack, it is Amazing

Anyone with an inch of history knowledge would be apalled with this crap fest of a movie.

When it first came out me, being a HUGE history lover, had high expectations from the movie.... needless to say it sucked bigtime. No wonder why it got booed in Cannes.

First of all clothes were not what they used in that particular period, second the script was appalling, acting worse...

Really, very disappointing that Coppola wasted that good of material and money (hell the French even let her film in Versailles, which seeing the big dishonour that movie made, I don´t think they will ever let another movie be filmed there :(), in such crap.

Wanna see a great portrayal of Marie Antoinette, see the French Revolution miniseries with Jane Seymour as her.

Love the film! Haven seen it so many times. Those of you looking for a history lesson, will not find it. The film is essentially a silent film almost with 80s music. All in all it is just a way of showing how young people usually can not deal with possessing so much power. It is a reflection of today's spoiled celebrities spending their days partying and spending money on frivolous things. Overall it is a great film. Watch some of the commentaries, special features, etc. if you want to learn more about the film as a whole. It is just totally experimental fun-faire, not a lot of history involved.
Anyone notice all the hidden pop-culture references hidden throughout the film? The pair of converse sneakers, the teen magazines, etc. that can be found in various scenes?!

Yeah i saw those, Sofia Coppola was quoted as saying "the sneakers were purposley put in the scene to show the audience she was just a typical teenager, regardless of the time she lived in" or something like that....
