I mean, I know graphics are a LOT better these days, but in terms of game play and endless hidden clues and such...

You could spend weeks looking for everything on this platform. (I know *I* did...;)) Even after all this time, I don't think it ever got any better than this.

Thoughts ?

It is certainly in the top 3.

My favourite action in the game was backflipping into the pictures to get to a new level. And doing a butt slide to do a long jump.

Mario 64 had great controls. Very good use of the N64 pad. Most games to this day do not control as good as this game.

A true champion game.

Exactly.

I think the first time the word intuitive was ever mentioned in video games was for this one...

I still think it genius...

I haven't played this game since I got the 120 stars. Definately one of my fav games. Definately ahead of its time.

i dont think so... 007 for N64 is also an excellent game

but in my opinion the best one and forever is Tomb Raider
ive played all 9 games

That is it in a nutshell. So many games fail to mind-blowing graphics. It's no different than a movie full of CGI effects. There is no 'movie' behind it. Think 'Godzilla'. Which one was more fun to watch? The one with the guy in the rubber suit stomping through models of Tokyo or the one with the computer graphics of a horrible (and I use that word loosely) creature stomping through New York City being chased by Matthew Broderick?

Super Mario World (SNES) was still better imho :)

(Jump and Runs died for me when they became 3D)

Super Mario World is one of my favorite games of all time.

Damn I wish I still had my SNES.

Mario 64 is definitely one of the best games ever made, but The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is still my favorite game of all time.

All of those 3D games on the older platforms made me light headed and dizzy within minutes so I never had a chance to get into it, but I did like the series up to that point.

I enjoyed the Banjo-Kazooie series. Kind of wished the third one was for the Wii.

I've actually made a top 10 list of video games and Mario 64 isn't in it. Its a good game and I enjoyed it but I didn't find it overly memorable, infact I didn't even think of it while doin gthe list.

Though the first thing I thought when I saw Mario 64 was "Camera Angles" God I lost so many lives to blind jumping cause the camera decided to be pointing at the floor, or Mario's butt or a perticularly fascinating piece of scenery.

Though two Mario game did make it into my top 10: Mario Land 2 and Super MArio RPG: Legend of the 7 stars.
