Marley, what's your favorite piece of classical music?

Have you heard that CD by Beyonce's sister? Salonge or whatever it is? I'll be honest - it's actually quite good. No, she doesn't have an amazing range. But the songs are good and sturdy, the production is "full" without being cluttered, and she sings them well. And she actually comes off sounding like she's having fun, rather than aiming to impress. That was refreshing. :)

Also, on a bit of an older tip, you might like Terence Trent D'Arby. The first album - Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby - is the best for straight-up R&B (although the beats are a bit stiff at times). His third album - Terence Trent D'Arby's Symphony or Damn: Exploring the Tension Inside the Sweetness - is also great, but has more rock mixed in, and ends up being a trippier experience.

Oh, and Thelonious Monk didn't cover 'Round Midnight. He wrote it. :)

^I like that song, who'd have thunk Solange was a weedhead?

actually i would've bet my life on it. haven't heard all of her album, but i have enjoyed what i've heard so far. like alot of peeps, i was SURE whatever she came out with would be shit, but she actually surprised me. i like that she's doing her own thing, and honestly she just seems more "real" than big sister B.

No, I have to disagree. I saw that interview of her and she came across as a stuck-up arrogant bitch. One reporter even had to put her ass in her place and told her to quit riding off her sister's fame and image. To me Solange is just as uppity and Hollywood as her big sis Bee, she just lacks her sister's fame, beauty and talent.

it seemed to me in that interview, she was upset BECAUSE she thought she was being linked to Beyonce. she'd mistakenly assumed that they were really after dirt on B.

Re: Marley's infinite playlist of doom and destruc

As the old saying goes whenever you assume, you make an ass out of u, not me. And that's exactly how Solange conducted herself in that interview, like a complete ass.

i'm not disputing her attitude in the interview. i just don't think think she's looking to capitalize on her sister's fame. quite the opposite actually.

Re: Marley's infinite playlist of doom and destruc

At the risk of further derailing this thread, I saw the interview, and she didn't sound offended. She sounded stilted. Like she was reading from a page. I wondered at the time if this was her attempt to try to get some face time other places - and it worked, as more people can cite that "interview" than can name a song by her. But it didn't do much good if nobody then ended up listening to her CD.

And that's a shame. Because regardless of the interview, it's a good fun CD.
