This, and a continued attempt by the current governments of the Western world to interfere with North Africa/Middle East while, for whatever reason, deciding not to plan for what happens after we bomb them all.

The solution is that wealthy countries have to do something to the homeland these people are coming from. Unfortunately if those countries do not have something valuable like oil, gold etc most of they western world could care less sadly. Some charities work well. I give to one that cr4eates wells with safe water for people in areas where small children have to walk a mile to get water.

Johnny Anger you hit the nail right on the head. For years America did the same with Latin America, propping up dictators so communism did not come in. Mind you Cuba is poor and has one of the best health systems in the world and the lowest infant mortality rate.

I would ask two questions. Firstly, how many of these people are attempting to travel to Europe for economic gain rather than for reasons of safety? Secondly, why do those whose safety is genuinely at risk in their home countries nevertheless attempt onward travel to the UK, Germany or wherever even after reaching a place of safety?

If we had a world in which anyone could go and live anywhere for any reason whatsoever, no questions asked and regardless of whether they were welcome in their destination country or not, then I'm sure that would be fine.

The west is involved in this because they give so much foreign aid. According to moyo she says that the African governments do not have an incentive to help grow their economies. Next you have the evil African dictators like robert mugabe in Zimbabwe. The west gives these African countries money and they are dependent on the foreign aid. Moyo proposes that the aid needs to be cut off except humanitarian aid. I agree with moyo if African governments were doing more they would not be so dependent on the west. The African continent has many natural resources like gold, diamonds, and oil but the African governments are not doing enough so the money trickles down to the people. The European Union is also at fault especially the French. The west gives money to these African dictators while mIllinois of people suffer.

In the past, I've shared some details about my boyfriend's family and how problematic they've been in the past. To recap, the parents are alcoholics and druggies, the sister is an HS dropout and has a kid with no father, and the brother is... well, it's complicated.

Recently, both the sister and the brother have approached us asking to move in with us. While we really really don't want anyone to move in with us, we also couldn't just downright turn them away. They're still family! They both couldn't keep a job!

Solution? I loaned the brother some money (I'm not holding my breath waiting to get reimbursed) to catch up with his rent and put in a good word at one of my contractors to recruit him as a truck driver. As for the sister, we've been regularly talking to her and taking her out during the weekends, trying to keep her from fucking up her current job. We're also guiding her toward getting her GED.

No, I'm not bragging about how good of person I am. Trust me, we're helping them purely for selfish reasons. I'd rather shell out some money now and keep the problems at arm's length then wait for them to move in with me.

What's my point? The best solution is to solve the problem while it is over there before it comes over here. Do whatever it takes to keep the problem at bay while it is still far away and it won't come to you. If you ignore the problem, it will eventually make its way to you.

The refugees are trying to get to Europe because they have no other choice. And that's what happens when Europe didn't try to solve the problem while it was still over there. Now, it's here.
