Video Mass: MIT Cop Shot Dead, Authorities respond to explosions and gunfire

Here's an interesting article on Chechnya and the separatists. Apparently not claiming responsibility for attacks is something they do from time to time, if you believe Russia.

I still don't want Putin anywhere near the investigation. That guy would love nothing more than to have us get into an unnecessary war in the Caucasus. Let us do our own investigation and if we conclude it was the work of Chechen separatists then we can bomb the shit out of them.

No Miranda Rights

"A senior Justice Department official told ABC News that federal law enforcement officials are invoking the public safety exception to the Miranda rights, so that Tsarnaev will be questioned immediately without having Miranda rights issued to him."

here is where you land on MARS...

They use the public safety rule to gather information so as to find objects that could cause public harm and to find collaborators. they also offer that if the suspect provides those details it may help their court case cause.

They have hundreds and hundreds of pictures of this fucker leaving the thingy that went boomy boom. That is all that is needed for the death penalty. Miranda will occur after they get the info they need now IF (big fucking IF) .... IF he lives through the night and ever is capable of speaking.

My two cents to quote a JUBber

The Taliban want nothing to do with this either.

We wont. Dont worry. The development of drone warfare means our troops will move away from ever dying for some other ignorant fucks cause. All we need is permission of the government involved and some good nintendo champs and it is game on. ..|

Well, if any more Chechens want to target people at sporting events....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Winter_Olympics

....they need only wait under ten months time.

Sochi is less than a hundred miles away from Chechnya. Bet you the Russians are reviewing their security.

Oh yeah. Those folks who wield terror in Chechnya will have half the world up their ass with a nit comb

What do terrorists care? They get publicity, they get notoriety, they get attention, they get propaganda.

Would you advise the Russians to stand down their security personnel and have a wide-open door to the event?

Listened to everything on the Boston PD scanner channel as it was happening last night, until about 5 am eastern time. It was unreal.

With how this kid handled himself in Watertown, there is no way he was just acting under the influence of his brother. He knew exactly what he was doing, knew how to conduct himself like an armed guerrilla, and knew what he needed to do to hide. No one does what he did under just the influence of another.

Also, did you guys catch his family's reaction? They are adamant it was not them. (except for his uncle) They have gone so far as to suggest it was a setup, and when probed to explain the events of last night, and the photographic evidence, they try to claim the FBI was controlling them. I understand that they're in shock, but it is shockingly offensive of them.

I think he's saying that they would be incredibly stupid to try anything, because they'd be dead before the 'event' they planned was over.

No not at all... is was a statement of fact not a complaint of action. And I doubt sincerely those that end up on the business end of the Russian security forces will consider it a 'non-thing' and maybe justifiably so... The USSR and then Putin in Russia did horrible things to those people and they are doing horrible things back. This very tenuous connection will only serve to shine a brighter light on the rats in the woodshed.

You know what I did?

I misread ONE word of JayHawk's post as 'would' instead of 'will'. It changed the entire perception of the post. Apologies.

Completely off-topic:

Isn't it amazing, grammatically speaking, how things like this can lead you to completely mistaken impressions?

Oh yeah. Those folks who wield terror in Chechnya will have half the world up their ass with a nit comb

JayHawk is being nice and agreeable. He's nodding his head and conversationally confirming what I say. :)

JayHawk is being sarcastic. He's disagreeing and ridiculing what I say, and doing so in an obnoxious manner. :jab:

I prefer to assume sarcastically agreeable.... it is the contrast that works so well.

:p

Evidently I have some work to do...

Religion has played a roll indeed:
"Tamerlan, 26, was an amateur boxer who had reportedly taken time off college to train for a competition; he described himself as a "very religious" non-drinker and non-smoker"

"Ali Bara Market, which sells chicken "hand-slaughtered by Muslims according to Islamic Law", as a sign in the front window says, is closed. So is a mosque down the street - the place where the Tsarnaevs used to pray."

One thing these bombers and many mass shooters have in common..they are angry at the world and thus think they are justified in killing innocent people.

19 years old and threw his life away.

He won't have to worry about anything anymore. He gets a cot and 3 hots for the rest of his life.

Or, like Tim McVeigh....a chair that plugs in.

One law for Benvolio - one law for fucking dirty immigrants - strange he claims to be a lawyer.

As always you misunderstand. It is not a different law for immigrants. It is an exception to the court-invented Miranda rule which allows officials to withhold the warnings when the need to find his information which might prevent future crimes trumps his right to be advised. He still has his 5th Amendment right not to speak, but not the right to be advised of it. If he knows of others planning such attacks, we need to know it.

Everyone is lauding the police search. Just how thorough is a search that fails to check out a winter-secured boat? With ripped tarp and blood leading to it and on its side nonetheless. Talk about no brainer! The house owner noticed the anomalies as soon as he stepped out of the house for a breath of fresh air.

The religion may have been what gave them ideas for action but I do not think it was the root of why they acted.

I question that as well. They explained that the boat and house was outside the perimeter they set up BUT how inept a perimeter if it took them an hour to set it thoroughly and he was FOUR blocks away.... I think even a crippled man in a wheelchair could go more than four blocks in an hour.

They're covering their ass. They shut down all of Boston and stop and search trains in Connecticut but something so close is outside the perimeter? A tactical failure.
