This is something that just started happening to me. Last saturday evening I resorted to doing the deed on my own and things were going good until all of the sudden the most painful pulsating pain I've ever felt started going on in the back of my head around the brain stem area. It was like my brain was having a Charlie horse and I could feel every heart beat and it almost sent me to my knees it hurt so bad. It scared the hell out of me because I've never felt anything like this before and after almost two hours of it not letting up I was scared enough to go to the emergency room. After another hour of BS there I finally got a cat scan and everything was good, no bleeding, just a MASSIVE migraine. I was given two different shots and oxygen and after another hour or so it finally started to let up. The following day I just had this sort of tightness in the back of my head/brain stem area and was physically exhausted. Monday I was fine and felt adventerous and decided to do the deed again. Again things were going pretty good then all of the sudden I felt the tightening in my head and bam it hit hard again. I stopped and the pain did slowly subside. I tried again yesturday and I had a slight tightening in my head working up to and during orgasm but that was it. Tried again tonight and again got hit hard by a migraine. I did a google search and it seems as though this sort of thing does happen but there wasn't much to say as to why it happens or what to do about it other then talk to your doctor. This is not something I want to deal with the rest of my life. My sex life is virtually non existant as it is and this is the last thing I need to completely eliminate sex or ever masterbation all together. Up until this point the only issue I've ever had was masterbating with a headache. Dr. Ruth said take two asprin and masterbate but for me masterbation has always made an existing headache much much worse but it has never caused a headache or migraine until now.

I was afraid of that. Whats weird is yesturday I did the deed and I did have a slight tightening in the back of my head and neck but nothing worth stopping over. Then like I said, today would have been a full blown migraine had I not stopped.

For a frequent masterbater not doing it is going to make me one irritable SOB, even worse then normal. I guess I will discuss this with my parents this weekend and see what needs to be done. Obviously something isn't right because I wasn't born this way, it just started last saturday.

I've mentioned having a migraine to a guy at work (didn't mention the cause) and he said he used to get them all the time until he started going to the chiropractor after going and going on a regular basis he hasn't had one since. I've never been and my work is pretty physical and my body does take a beating. Maybe its something as simple as something being out of alignment.

Migraines aren't typically a back of the head pain, I would be concerned with blood pressure issues if it were happening to me, but I'm NOT a doctor.

what desmond said... i know if i get a migraine i usually "Do the Deed" and it clears it right up. but growing up certain foods used to give me bad bad migraines... food with alot of colouring and or preservatives

I did some reading on migraines and it seems as though they tend to cause pain in the temples or right behind the eyes but can cause it in the back of the head and brain stem area. I'm not doctor either so I don't really know if this is a bad sign that it is in the back of my head and neck or what. My blood pressure does run a little high. My normal at rest blood pressure is around 140-145 over 80-85. At the emergency room I was at 160 over 90. When I'm working hard and my heart is pounding I would hate to guess how high it gets. I know there have been times I would get so worked up or pissed off I would give myself nose bleeds and my face would turn beet red. Two weeks ago yesturday I quit drinking pop/soda all together. I was only having one a day but I didn't see the need for it and I'm trying to cut down on my salt intake. I very very rarely intentionally use salt but I'm trying to stay away from processed foods because they are so loaded with salt and of course french fries and so on.

Re: masturbation causes migraines

I've had migraines for many years. Although I don't experience an aura, I do know when they are starting and modern medication like Maxalt and the other "triptans" actually helps in that phase. Old stuff like Cafergot never worked for me.

I mention this because masturbation, among other activities that involve muscle tensing does lead to migraines for me. There are multiple types of migraines and people have different triggers--for me it's dehydration, which also means that drinking excessively (which causes dehydration) can be a problem. For other people, food is more important. Caffeine takes the edge off a headache for me, but for some other people, it makes them more susceptible.

Migraines are very tricky and highly specific to the individual. (ie things that help some people make it worse for others) I'd pick a doctor and get friendly with him, since working with a MD is going to be your best bet to figuring out what's going on and how to manage it. I started getting migraines (with auras) 4 years ago. My first lasted for a week, and they've gotten shorter and less frequent since then. I haven't had one since last April and that one only lasted a few hours.

I used to occasionally get these, though it would only happen rarely. I wouldn't worry too much unless they become a common occurrence. Take note of how you're masturbating. Do you tense up, stop breathing and starting pumping furiously? If so, try and relax, take it easy and see what happens.

If they become common though, like other people have said, see a doctor.

Extreme stress causes these headaches for me. During sex I feel it but try to ignore it. Then when I cum, BAM!!!! The worst pain in my life hits my brain. Sex induced migraine for sure. It's scared the crap out of my other half a couple times. It just takes time to get over. Being less stressed, more hydrated, and controlled blood pressure seems to be the keys in keeping this from happening to me.

Good luck bro.

justaguy1988 I know exactly what you're talking about. When I was younger, maybe around 16 or 17, I experienced the exact type of pain you describe when masturbating. I stopped for a week, and it went away. Haven't had it happen since, almost 10 years ago.

I used to get these when i was younger. Found that these things lasted for about a week, then they would disappear and the intense headache pain was no more.

Happened on and off but cant say i can remember the last time it happened which is excellent because it was totally awful!!

Things are slowly getting better. Early last week I was still getting some pretty intense pain in my neck and head but I was thinking enough to try moving my neck and sure enough if I got it just right the pain went away. By late last week I was a lot better and today there was no pain at all when doing the deed. I still need to go see Chiropracter but for now things a far better then they were.

^if it's coital cephalalgia, the wiki mentions a pressor response to exercise as a possible cause.

Kara's Wiki entry said exercise and reduction in weight sometimes prevents recurrence. Have you tried that?
