He feels as though that the possibility that Sarah Palin could be president is scary to him, that her lack of experience is frightening, as well as the lack of general knowledge on her. His comment on 'dinosaurs and nukes' is along the lines of "I really want to know if she believes Dinosaurs ruled 4000 years ago.. because she'll have the nuclear codes."

What an asshole.

"It's like a really bad Disney movie ... hockey mom from Alaska ..."

She's the Governor of Alaska. He points out she's been Governor for less than two years. Obama's been a US Senator for effectively less than two years. Before that she was Mayor, he was a part-time state Senator who did not distinquish himself with anything that constituents have come forward to praise.

We've got two inexperienced candidates who are bulging with celebrity and "likability" but no substance: the Democratic candidate for President and the Republican candidate for VP.

^Well, here we are in agreement again, Nick! Let's get a picture of this moment! What I find most ironic, is that they call each other on their experience, or lack of it!

I don't think he was an asshole at all.

He raised concerns many of us have about this woman..Is she a religious nut?

I don't care if Palin is "a religious nut" any more than I care if Obama is Muslim.

^really?

You feel that a person who believes dinosaurs roamed the Earth 4000 years ago is qualified to be shaping policies regarding the use of fossil fuel and global warming?

You feel that a person who places their own perception of God above all others is qualified to represent the needs, desires and expectations of a nation made up of Christians, Hindus, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims etc?

You feel that a person who believes the Iraq War is part of "God's plan" is qualified to take over as Commander In Chief if the President is incapacitated?

Regardless of your opinions of Obama, I can't believe any rational person could consider Palin a better choice for leadership.

Nick, Matt Damon is discussing Palins LACK of qualifications, not Obama's relative qualifications.

Which we've heard about Obama since the primaries. One of the main things he says is that he's surprised that more people aren't talking about it.

I believe dinosaurs roamed the Earth 4000 years ago, too. Yes I believe that person is qualified.

If you meant the opposite, I haven't seen Palin say she doesn't believe dinosaurs roamed the earth 4000 years ago.

Most people who believe in God place their own perception of God above all others.

Look, I don't believe in God the way Christians do, so as far as I'm concerned Obama's belief in God is as nutty as Palin's. I think all this God stuff in politics is nutty. I think Palin appears to be a reasonable-thinking human being with what used to be called a good head on her shoulders. I had a grandmother who was very God-centric in her thinking and, although hearing "God" sprinkled throughout her opinions all the time could be annoying, truth is she was a sensible and pragmatic and fair-minded decision-maker, made much better choices than some others in the family who never mentioned God. I think emphasis on God and religion in political campaigns is a diversion. I'm much more interested in a candidate's decision making and the results.

The fact that she is Governor of Alaska, doesn't move me one bit towards feeling that she is qualified for the office. Not one bit.

Obama may be not be my first choice, but I'll take him over her..

boy george was governor of a state and you know where that took us.
You are right Kennyworth.

For real? Despite so much scientific evidence to the contrary? That's a fascinating discussion I'd love to have, but probably belongs in another thread.

I don't understand your point here - opposite to what?

Most people who believe in God place their own perception of God above all others.

Maybe, but most people aren't a heartbeat from being in control of one of the most powerful military forces on Earth. My own perception of Obama is that he is an educated, intelligent man, and he has shown the utmost of respect for other cultures and religions. I've certainly not heard him descend into Islamo-bashing or fear mongering like I saw and heard at the Republican Convention.

You skipped over the question. I'm sure your Grandmother was a wonderful woman, but I doubt she was qualified to be President or VP either. I think Bush probably appeared reasonable and a "good head on his shoulders" type in 2000. Look where that got us.

Matt Damon echoes my own doubts about Palin very clearly.
