What is "mature age"? Gay men all over the world still continue to get married to women because of social constraints. Not everyone is liberated yet.

In my teens, I thought I would have to do that. This was only the early to mid 2000s, but the place I lived in wasn't exactly gay friendly. I loved living there, but the homophobia is really what's keeping me from moving back. I could afford to move back though...

Oh, goody! Another group for Pissy Pat to make judgmental comments about!

I don't believe these men "blindly" married women. They probably did what they believed to be best givin' their personal situation at the time.

Who are you to judge?

:? So many issues!
As Benderboy said, we did the best that we knew how to do.
When I was 15 and knew that I was different, there was no "nice" word to describe myself, I was a "queer" gay wasn't around, at least in my area.

I had been taught that homosexuals were that way because they participated in sex acts with other guys and that it was a learned behavior. In my teenage brain it made sense to me that if one could learn something then they could unlearn it as well.

Prayer, Bible reading (about 10 chapters a day), living in a commune and marriage were all part of the agenda.
I have been married for 40 yrs. without a lot of issues, nor a lot of regrets.

Life is not as difficult as some would have you believe.

I always thought they lied and used women, even if ¨they probably did what they believed to be best givin' their personal situation at the time¨, end of discution. Sure, there were other times, other places, but lying is lying, and marriage was a bigger thing back then than it is now. Let´s not turn them into victims when it comes to this, please.

Looking back it is so sad that thousands, if not millions, of guys lived completely unfulfilled lives due to bowing to social pressures.
And also think of the same numbers of wives who had their lives blighted by being victims of that same social pressure
I am of an age where, given different circumstances, I could so easily have been in that situation.
For all their faults the one thing my family never did was put any pressure on me to conform

Long last they see the light of being gay..being who they are. Straight to gay...excusable...any other shade is not. You know perfectly well what I mean and YOU are still on the hook for living a lie. No one biys it. You either are or you are not.

Of course they are/were victims. Victims of social pressure

A long time ago, maybe. But there are men in their 30s, 40s and 50s who got married 10, 20 or 30 years ago, in countries like Spain, for example, where even if gay marriage didn´t exist back then, things were getting done, one step at a time. Yes, there is social pressure today too in some countries, regardless of the subject, still it doesn´t excuse lying to someone (in this case, women). Whatever comes from your response to social pressure, YOU are responsible for it.

I used to resent them in general because of the attitude they often had when they came into the nightclub. A lot of times I would have to hear them talk about how "empty" the rest of our lives were and a lot of other condescending bullshit as they reaffirmed their love for their wife.

I wanted to ask them if that love included lying to them or exposing them to sexually transmitted diseases but I wanted my tip so I just smiled and excused myself as fast as I could.

Unlike a lot of other people...I fucking hated Brokeback Mountain and was not sympathetic to the characters. I didn't like either one of them.

That would have to suck! Imagine making a straight guy feel as tho he needed to marry a man to be normal. Life would suck. period. for all involved. I feel bad for people like that.
