Hey guys!
I'm sure you all know me by now. I've given a lot of advice in this part of the forum. I've also helped a lot of people too. For that I feel great. So I thought that I'd share this little story with you that has developed in the last 48 hours. I was crushed at the end of the experience but now I'm having a good laugh at it. I've never really been able to approach anybody after my previous complicated relationship with a guy...not just any guy but my best friend. Just to give you guys a quick catch up lesson, we were together since grade 10 (1991 to 1992 school year) and broke up in 2005. We broke up because he found the girl of his dreams and wanted kids etc. So he turned his back on his gay feelings (oh he was bi by the way).
Anyways, after that, I lost my will to ask cute guys out. I feared rejection. Well my story starts last night in Wal-mart. There been this guy that has worked there for over 2 years now. Quite guy. Not a talker or anything. Him and me know each other from our days of playing the card game Magic the Gathering at our local hobby store. However he stopped coming in about three years ago. Everytime I run into him he just says hi or nods his head. Complete ignores me except for if i need a game out of the cabinet or something that's locked up. Then he just does his job, grabs it and I pay and leave. Simple right. Right!
Well last night I finally decided to pick up the Sony PSP handheld video game machine. I walked over to him and asked the usual questions, is it good?, Do you have it? etc. etc. Now after answering my questions he just started into a debate on the current console systems. Asking my thoughts and what games I liked. Through all that he found out that I like the Xbox 360 and I don't have a wii or a ps 3 and that I'm not planning on getting them. I find out that he has all three systems but a Nintendo DS handheld system. The ps3 is his favourite and the xbox 360 is his least favourite system.
We continue to talk, laugh, argue and have a jolly good time. I'm smiling at him and he's smiling back at me. We spend about an hour together talking. No customers come in at all. He finally looks at his watch and says I'm sorry but I have to take my break now. I look at my watch and go "oh shit. We've been at this an hour and the store is closing in about 45 more minutes!" I gotta go I say and he says okay, well cya! I nod and head out.
I get home that night and get my psp all hooked up and charged. I picked up a few games that were on sale. I get ready to play them. Only I can't!! LOL
I forgot a memory card for the machine! DOH!! Basically I could play the games but I would not be able to save my progress. So I say fudge it and plan to head out there the next day.
The next day or tonight (Feb 05th). I head out to Wal-mart. Head to electronics and begin to look for the memory card. There's nobody manning the department at all. The psp takes a special memory stick. So I can't find them and I proceed to look at the games well I wait for somebody to notice me on camera waiting in the department.
Five minutes pass. I'm down on one knee so that I can see what's on the bottom shelf. Suddenly this hand is on my shoulder and I hear a familiar voice go "hey there!". I look up and it's my friend from the night before. Nice blue eyes and a big smile on his face! I turn to him and go "Hi! Guess what! You forgot to sell me a memory card for that PSP!" and he goes "oh shit! sorry!"
Long story short...I get my memory card and then we proceed to talk about the old N64 video game called "Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Then horror movies. Then favourite colours, food, and I find out that his birthday is tommorrow! (Feb 06th). This conversation lasts only 45 mins this time but the phone for his department rings and I stop....look at him and with a big smile on my face I say "Um...your phone is ringing?" He looks at me and returns the smile and says "I know....I'm trying to ignore it!" We both laugh.
Then a few customers come in and he gets rid of them fast and we continue to talk...but about his birthday and xbox live. I pay for my stuff and asked him for a sheet of paper and I handed down my screen name and told him to add me as a friend. We could play together sometime. He like sure...but I don't know if I make it on tonight and I won't be on for the rest of the week because I'll be in London (Ontario, Canada). I go...oh really. Well you have a Happy Birthday tommorrow! He smiled back and says "Thank you! I will!"
I ask him what he going to be doing in London all week, hitting the clubs with friends? He slums forwards and leans on the counter and in what i swear was a mono tone voice goes..."No. I'm seeing the girlfriend and spending sometime with her." My whole body changes and without thinking I reply, "oh...well you have fun. I gotta go!" and I walk away.
Crash and burn! Crash and burn!
Now...I'm not asking for any advice at all. I think that he was just happy to have a guy talk to maybe. That I liked the same stuff as he did. I did have a feeling about him but that's over with now. Oh for the record he's 21 years old. So I figured that I'm always giving advice and stuff...I'd be interest in hearing your opinion. Your thoughts. The ball is in his corner if he wants to be friends. All he has to do is add me to his Xbox friends list. So I'm curious. Is this typical behavior for a straight male?
Discuss!
Oh yeah...it may not have gone as I hoped but I feel something come back to me well I was talking to him and that was my self confidence that disappeared 4 years ago. It feel great! I felt totally in control of myself and there was no awkward silent moments in our conversation. I'm still laughing at the phone comment. Even right now!
(I'm trying to ignore it!) LOL
