Op-Ed McCarthy Runs! Republicans IMPLODE!

It won't happen only because there;s neither honor nor courage left in Washington. Men with honor and courage would get together and throw the Tea Party out of the GOP. But they're so brainwashed and addicted to power they can't conceive of doing what's been done before in the U.S.

Hell, if there was any honor or courage in the Tea Party, they'd BE a new party!

Now that I agree with. I'd personally repudiate all the nasty things I've ever said about him if he ever found that backbone you mentioned.

As an educated and not disinterested observer....I am enjoying watching the GOP totally implode over this.....of finally reaping what they have sown.

Something has to be done to stop the two party gerrymandering that has helped lead to this state of affairs.

And to stop the tyranny of a a small group of right wing nuts from governing the agenda of the country without having the mandate to do so.

OK, here's the story I saw which contains quotes from the House rules, showing how he could in effect appoint an acting Speaker:

And here's something else I ran across, suggesting a reason why McCarthy may have taken himself out of the running:

"Whenever appropriate...."

Boehner could put together a list with his name missing, and submit it to the clerk, deeming it appropriate on the basis that as of its submission he was resigning his seat -- and he could put whomever he wanted on top of the list.

Too bad Ron Paul isn't still around -- Boehner could hand out heart attacks all around by putting him at the top!

A perfect moment for a bold Democrat and Republican to get together and introduce legislation abolishing Congressional districts and mandating proportional representation (within state delegations) by party, and tripling the size of the House -- a Republican who hates the Tea Party, obviously.

One does not have to be a House member to be speaker. He could appoint Paul or better yet -- Pope Francis. Of course, Francis would have to exorcise the entire place and would likely not be "Christian enough."

It gets better.

Breaking news on the AP, who are reporting that Republicans members of the House have been receiving mass emailings, accusing Mccarthy of adultery, naming the other party ... a female member of the House. She is denouncing the person or persons doing this as being batshit crazy -- as indeed they very well may be -- but so far, I haven't seen anything where anyone is denying the accusation.

They've made such a mess of things I'm all for bringing back dueling to Congress -- make it non-lethal, but the loser would be banned forever from political office.

Didn't one member of the House or Senate beat another member senseless on the floor of the chamber, sometime in the 19th century?

I suppose it's too much to hope that these clowns get their act together before disaster sets in. As I recall, there's a pending government shutdown in November, and a default possible in December. And then there's the self-inflicted mess coming up in January, where their plan will inflict a 20% cut in benefits for the disabled. Using the average payment, that works out to around $200 less per month for a disabled person. Now, logically, in most cases, that money would be churned right back into the economy, through purchases of goods and services. What they've engineered is that in one fell swoop, $200 X the number of disabled receiving benefits (around 10 million, IIRC) will be sucked out of the economy per month. Almost anyone above the level of idiocy could do the math on that -- and that doesn't factor in the very real hardships people can and will face with this.

someone else has said it--if they let the Hastert rule die that would solve some of the problem--but they don't want to mention Hasterts name as he's in deep shit being accused of being a pedo.:p

Under the rule cited, it seems the Speaker pro tem would have to be a member, because it's achieved by submitting a list of members.

Francis... interesting. I suppose he could draw up that list, and "absent-mindedly write Francis' name at the top....
though I think what the House needs is a master sergeant who takes no nonsense.

Especially when the minimum disability payment should be $500 per month!

The GOP no longer cares about arithmetic, or any other math. They no longer care about economic reality, or people (except when it comes to the unborn, or people needing guns to protect themselves, or the very, very, very, very, very, very wealthy). Today's GOP would look at a new rash of Hoovervilles with pride (even as the elitist politicians on both sides sent in police to persecute the inhabitants).

And I'm one of the disabled. A $200 cut would remove about the only thing that's kept me sane over the last 15yrs. The internet. If they don't get their shit together, I become homeless.

Republicans are the minority party. The gop represents 40 million fewer voters in the senate even with a 54 seat "majority". The House is gerrymandered. We know all this. The 435 member limit is a statue, not in the constitution so can be changed with a simple majority. like my post in the other thread, the hastert rule makes the speaker a dictator.
until Americans realize their democracy has been stolen nothing positive will happen. the gop are hostage takers and killers of American soldiers.
the tea party has really screwed itself however, they have no plan B and their plan A will only further polarize the GOP and make their party even more dysfunctional.
even yesterday mccarthy accused obama of 'managing America's decline' and Obama responded by saying Republicans are down on America, they are down on America, they are losers and their leaders are failures.
i dont think democrats should help elect a speaker, that will only take wind out of democrats sails next year when people think republicans are suddenly reasonable when they have shown dozens of times over the past 5 years they are untrustworthy.
if paul ryan becomes speaker that will be the final nail in his political coffin after he bombed in the Vp debate. people are giving republicans way too much faith that they can govern.

bernie sanders knows all of this as do many many progressives, if democrats win a majority i expect serious reform of the entire political system and it will be a very hard fought battle but the tea party will be killed off by liberals, i can guarantee it.

if you need evidence look no further at the falling gas prices, the gop calling off a hostage taking on the debt ceiling, and the federal reserve scared shitless of what is coming. anytime these faceless institutions sense the establishment is about to crumble they run for the hills.

nothing conservatives say matters.
