A majority of Americans want tax cuts on the wealthy to expire. But tax cuts on the wealthy will not be allowed to expire because that's what the minority wants.

A majority of Americans wanted a public option for health care. But we have no public option because that's what the minority wanted.

I think it's critical to remember, that comparing Democrats to Republicans is a false equivalency. Republicans are rabidly trying to belittle us, demean us, and are dead set against us. Democrats by in large, just aren't as big of supporters of gay people as we would like them to be. That's a sea change difference between the two. One is actively working against us, and the other group is merely guilty of not fighting back as diligently as we had hoped.

And right now, he is doing an incredible disservice to his country by making it appear that the US military is so weak and fragile that it can't do what other western democratic nations have already done.

I promise you there will be less loss of straight soldiers due to the repeal of DADT than the loss of gay soldiers due to its enactment.

The service has gay men and women in it now and it operates quite effectively.

In 1948, President Harry Truman integrated the armed forces. There wasn't all this exhaustive studying. At that time 80% of white soldiers were against serving with a black man. President Truman said that's how it's going to be and did it.

Now it's hard to imagine an unintegrated military. It's also hard to imaging the President giving orders like Truman. Think of how the rightwing pundits would take that.

No, McCain talked about the troops favoring the law. So he'd be like this:

1. Have you read the bill which would repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"?

McCain is an absolute bigot. Of a Republican Senate that's been mostly silent on the issue, McCain has gone out of his way to bash, insult, and scream against the gay men and women in our military who serve and protect us.

This fallen war hero has betrayed and shamed the uniform he wore. To think, some of you voted for this despicable man instead of Obama in '08. It isn't just the "gay issue," it's the principle that of all the politicians in that Senate who should understand and show compassion to the lives DADT has destroyed, it should be McCain. Instead, he's the very who is spitting on the faces of his fellow brothers and sisters in uniform.

From Mullen's expression, I kept thinking what he really wanted to do was as McCain, "When the hell was the last time you were in uniform? As for repercussions -- in Korea there were officers who deliberately put blacks into the nastiest and deadliest fighting. It tool a while to clean them out. But today's military is a lot more professional.

I met two gay Marines. Both laughed at the idea that any but a hard-case few would do more than shrug or maybe grimace and change who they shared a shower with. Marines know there are gays among them now, and don't care.

McCain thinks he should be president. For a Republican, he had fairly moderate views on gay issues and immigration issues. However, he's pissed because gays and latinos voted for Obama in huge numbers. Hence, he is doing whatever he can to prevent the defense authorization bill from coming up for a vote because it would repeal DADT and enact the Dream Act. He's a disgusting hypocrite.
