I was wondering how safe is it to meet some one for a casual encounter on craigslist? I've never met any one online before and I'm pretty paranoid. I want to host at my place. Any advice please? I'm 21 years old and this would be my first gay encounter. Thank you. I live in Minneapolis.

I suspect that it is good to be a little paranoid -- and a lot careful...

But it might work out great for you...

Although, for your first gay encounter -- you might be better off with a really good friend that you're already really comfortable with...

Public place first, talk on phone first, multiple pictures from different angles preferably, and don't be afraid to leave if it doesn't feel (or look) right. If they resist any of these terms, something's off.

I wouldn't just have someone over to your place and at your front door without a lot of verification.

Look for a small protrusion just below the hairline, a bit like a skin-tag--it's actually the gills. And if he refuses to take the pictures, or suggests you drop by a bait shop on the way to your dinner date, DON'T GO!

Oh, don't have Craiglist as your first encounter!!! It's filthy with really strange promiscuous guys. Why don't you make a profile on Myspace and meet a nice boy from there and go for lunch or dinner and hang out. Don't fall into the whore trap that many guys do, that may well be the reason most gays (that I know) don't know how to be in a relationship anymore, that's how strong sexual compulsion drives their overall conduct. And not to forget that gay guys are much more likely to carry the HIV virus, and Craigslist would be where you'll find many of them.

This is really good advice. Don't make Craigslist your first encounter. If you must, follow the other good advice in the thread and be cautious. Better to meet first at a public place.

it depends on what type of a person you are. If you're just desperate and horny then post a CL ad and tell the guy to send some pics of himself first. Chat back and forth for a bit, feel him out. Then just leave all your inhibitions and common knowledge at the door and go for it :)

I don't know if you really want your first time to be with a random stranger though. I can assure you it will leave you in disappointment. Why not try a somewhat safer method? manhunt and a4a.

for what it's worth, my first gay encounter was with CL, and it turned out to be a great experience, we still talk after 2 years! he was a few years older than me, and he's more like a bro now (we don't have sex anymore)
