I got an interesting notion tossed at me from the Courage Campaign:
Courage Campaign
"Do the rights and privileges we offer citizens include everyone in our country, or only some of us?... Equality under the law and personal freedoms are what make America the greatest country in the world, and they are core values that I hold as a Republican." -- Meghan McCain, New York Daily News, 2009
Dear friend --
It's hard to believe, but it's possible that the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" -- which will likely be debated in the Senate as early as next week -- could come down to one heart-to-heart conversation between a daughter and her father.
Meghan McCain, who has come out strongly in favor of gay rights in the last year, could be the only person in the world who might be able to convince her father, John McCain, to drop his unprecedented threat to support a filibuster of the entire defense budget bill in his attempt to stop the repeal of DADT.
Why Meghan McCain? Because she gets it. Like Laura Bush, Dick Cheney and other conservatives who have recently come out in favor of marriage equality, she knows that bringing full equality to gay and lesbian Americans is both principled and patriotic.
Unfortunately, her father is being pulled in the opposite direction, as organizations like the right-wing Family Research Council release videos claiming President Obama is trying to "force open homosexuality on the military."
Meghan knows the truth and she's probably the only one who can express it to her father in a way that might change his mind -- and his heart. But first we need to convince her to have what we like to call a "Courageous Conversation" with her dad.
That's where you come in. Will you take 10 seconds of your time to add your name to our short note to Meghan McCain, asking her to have a "Courageous Conversation" with her father John before it's too late? Debate on the defense budget bill could start as early as July 12 and we need to get Meghan's attention now. DEADLINE: Monday, 5 p.m.:

I say let's do this -- I'm doubtful she can do it, but it's worth a try!
