So, I’m in the market for a new wallet. The old one was never really intended to be a ‘wallet’ in the first place, more of a card holder with a small section for a couple folded bills, but I’ve been using it as a wallet anyway since high school. A friend gave it to me. It’s Banana Republic, so it isn’t a ghetto coin pouch or anything.

But as my birthday draws neigh I figure it would be a good time to demand and upgrade.

Any recommendations on reasonably priced brands? (I’m thinkin’ $50-80. I might go higher but it would have to be unicorn leather stitched with angel hair, or close enough to it. heh)

My ideal; I’d like something functional over flashy. It must be able to house at least 6-8 cards. No drivers licence window – those things only get cloudy and scratched anyway. Obviously it must house standard North American bills. A coin pouch is optional, I rarely carry change. High quality is a must, especially in the way of leather.

The best wallet I ever had was made of eel skin, soooo thin and soft! It was just like this one:

That one is [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Leather-Bifold-Credit-Wallet-Available/dp/B0007IQF2C"]$17 at Amazon[/ame].

I find the thinness of the leather to be the most important thing with a wallet. I hate a lot of bulk, that's why I just carry a card wallet and never put anything in it besides my cards, no cash and no receipts and no buy-ten-get-one-free cards.

I don't know what to advise to be honest.

I've been using a tommy hilfiger leather wallet for the past couple of years and that's never let me down :P

This will be my next wallet :D, from Brown Bear, but it's expensive:

There's also a cheaper model where the bear logo is just burned-in.

Maybe check out J.Fold. They are a little flashy, but not overly so - and in your price range. :-)

This, and the material is really nice feeling leather. I have the 'sports' wallet from them (the black one with red interior). It looks and feels pretty nice, but that particular one has a driver's license window which you don't like. I've had mine for 2 years and it hasn't scratched yet.

I have a black, bifold wallet by Resistol. I bought it at American Workwear. It's looks nice and has lasted several years with hardly any sign of (negative) wear. I think it was $30 or so.

I can't imagine paying more money for a wallet than I would ever have IN the wallet. I've only ever had two wallets in my life and both cost less than $15. My first wallet closed with Velcro. It was a quintessential teenage boy wallet. I loved it, though, and it lasted me many years. Now I have a cheap leather tri-fold black wallet. It's basic, but it's lasted me about seven years now and it doesn't even look worn.

I don't like to carry any thing more with me than my drivers license, and I think my library card is in there, too !oops! Despite what little I carry, my wallet seems a bit over adequate. Really prefer the minimal style. You might be interested in this wallet I was thinking of getting soon. It's the [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Koyono-Slimmy-Original-Black-M17546BK/dp/B0007OC3UY/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1276826688&sr=8-1-fkmr1"]Slimmy[/ame]. It seems to be very practical and stylish. Eliminates the bulk of traditional wallets. It's purports to be of leather. And it's inexpensive.

I'm still using the leather bifold wallet w/coin purse I bought at the Minneapolis airport 12 years ago for $25.
It's not showing signs of giving up any time soon and I use it a LOT.

I have a cheap wallet i brought from walmart over 5 years ago i recently started using it again and i washed it in the washer machine and it came out looking new. I saw some nice ones at ross and they were 12 dollars and i thought that was expensive but 80 dollars holy cow you know how many packs of neckbones you can buy with 80 dollars?
