I'd have some if they weren't so bloody expensive!

I've met quite a few long-distance hikers (backpackers) who wear them. For one thing, on the trail when you need to take a dump, ordinarily it means stop, ditch your pack and park it, hike off a ways, drop your pants, etc. In a kilt, you just walk off a ways, crouch, and let 'er rip. And should you get some bad water and thus diarrhea, they're a life-saver!

The best footgear I've seen with them were a pair of TEVA sandals with high strapping that came up the calf a ways like old Roman legion footgear -- of course, that set of TEVAs sold for over a hundred bucks.

And guys I've met on the trail also like them if there's a stream to ford; no need to shed pants or get them wet.

The funniest use I've ever seen was a guy hiking with his small dog, when heavy rain hit: he set his feet shoulder width apart and leaned forward a bit, turning his kilt into an "umbrella" for the dog.

The funniest ones I've ever seen was on a couple of guys who'd gotten someone to sew pics of their butts on the outside, making it look like chaps ahead on the trail (and BTW, all chaps are "assless").

As the pics already show, they come in many designs/patterns.

Thx Rob, I was just curious on the tradition. I actually really enjoy seeing a guy wearing his kilt. Seeing the pride of family and heritage is very cool to me. I've seen a few guys wearing them regularly arounf here and think it's great.
