Isn't it already legal between consenting adults? Last I heard, first-cousin marriage was legal (at least, in the USA). Taboo, but still legal.

It is not legal between adults that are close relatives.

First cousin marriage is legal in some states, banned in others, and a crime in a few.

Of course the laws prohibiting it go back often more than a century and unless someone challenges them, 99% of people won't even know they exist so no one is going to bother introducing bills to change them.

But making it legal wouldn't make it liked by anyone. I mean, have you SEEN the unabashed hatred (and yes, I'm aware that's a strong word, but it's absolutely warranted) a lot of guys in this forum have for smokers?

For Men and Women incest is illegal as it weakens the gene pool and thus causing problems with offspring such as mental illness and congenital imperfections. When men "breed" there are no offspring therefore it shouldn't be illegal but convention and society still say it is wrong, it's a moral issue. Personally I wouldn't have sex with any of my family members as there is no physical sexual attraction to any of them. Then again if there was I probably wouldn't either, there are far better men for me to have sex with! Why limit yourself to the family when there's potentially a whole World of different men to explore.

I voted Yes especially between men! I am into incest but have never done it with a family member yet. I always wanted to do my dad and then I also have an uncle and some cousins I would love to have sex with. I would be happy to be able to go around and telling people that I had sex with an uncle or a cousin if it wad legal. So many of us lust after family members and if it wad legal we wouldn't feel so ashamed of ourselves.

That's kind of like saying if weed is legalized kids will be forced into smoking it.

Not even close to being the same.

To me it's not, mostly because a kid could be taken advantage of very easily. I guess if it's between two consenting adults then...well, yeah fine. That's their life. But I guess only if it's same-sex so no inbred babies are born.

Actually incest between consenting adults is not criminalised in a large part of the world including: China, Russia, Brazil, India, Japan, France, Spain, Portugal, Israel, Holland, Turkey and several other countries.

It is also legal in the US states of Rhode Island, New Jersey and Michigan.

I do not think incest is a very good idea - nevertheless not an area where the criminal law should be involved. The fact that laws against incest are largely inspired by religious ideas is best illustrated by the law in Ireland - where the penalties for incest between consenting adults are up to seven years jail for women and up to life imprisonment for men.

There can be any number of things that many people disapprove of and would not chose to do personally.

However that does not give the majority in society the right to make laws punishing others for doing these. I see that there is a general principle that consenting adults should be free to do what they wish provided this does not cause substantial harm to themselves or to others.

For myself – I do not ask that others approve of my own sexual preferences – but they have no right to make laws preventing me doing these. Many forms of consensual sex (including homosexuality) have in the past been illegal (and still are in many countries) and are probably still disapproved of by the majority of people in many nations.

So those of us that now enjoy the right to enjoy sexual activities that were previously illegal should think very carefully before we support laws punishing others for their sexual preferences.
