MERGED: All this Eclipse: Do you have your solar eclipse glasses?

I don't think I've ever been in the path of totality. In 2012, I was in New Mexico when the annular eclipse occurred, and I've been in several partial eclipses. Always interesting to observe. The total is rare enough for people to justifiably be excited.

Hope the weather doesn't spoil too many viewings today.

I grew up in Norfolk, Virginia, and I was 13 years old during the Eclipse of 1970.

Let me say how truly blessed I feel to have experienced such an awesome event. The whole neighborhood was outside as the sky darkened. The air temperature dropped rapidly, followed by gusting winds and the sounds of animals sending out their evening calls.

Then, at the exact moment of totality, the stars were visible, the winds died down and all the night animals went quiet!
The sun was a black spot in the sky surrounded by a halo.

Strangest of all . . . it was nighttime above us, but because the moon's shadow is circular, on the horizon was a 360 degree sunrise! I've never seen anything more beautiful.

As the moon shadow passed, the winds picked up, the temperature started to rise, the dawn birds when crazy with songs - and I have memories of a rare experience.

I remember the 1970 total eclipse, when I was 12 years old, which reached 90% totality where I lived. I wanted to go to North Florida to see the total eclipse at the time, but my parents weren't interested.

Thank goodness this nonsense is over for another few decades....

It was so overcast in Ontario that it was more like having a dark rainstorm closing in...in fact I know we have had them darker than the eclipse today.

Please tell me that all the evangelicals did get raptured up?

Please?

The clouds cleared up here. Solid clouds to clear sky. The various noisy birds got quiet for a bit but they are back out in force singing for sex. Penny was with me and seemed to wonder why are we here and what happened to supper.

As it got dark a flock of six buzzards flew over. I think they nest in the old growth cedar trees we have. I see them coming from that direction when walking the dogs in the morning.

I have polarized sunglasses. Wear a pair and hold the other pair in front and rotate to control the brightness. The clouds made a huge difference.

I got to see a total eclipse. From my yard.

/\ Did you notice a drop in the temperature?

I've read that it can drop as much as 10°.

The last one that we saw when we still lived in Toronto must have been in the early summer or something....it was very warm that day and the temperature absolutely plunged.

Today, It was already cold so really couldn't detect the change.

It did cool off. I was too busy to look at the various temp gauges. I almost went for my fleece jacket but it wasn't windy.

Where I'm at it i didn't use my glasses cause it was cloudy but I could see it through the clouds and got dark for a minute took a few pictures it was nice something like that

I'm sorry to report that Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and Benedict XVI escaped from Hell while the eclipse had Satan distracted.

They're baa-aack!

The local news just showed people getting married under the eclipse. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Toronto reached 99% total. Kingston went 100% total. Peterborough didn't even reach late-afternoon dim.

While the Moon's shadow was over Houlton, Maine, NASA cut into it's live video the feed from the International Space Station.

Check out the Solar Eclipse seen from above.
