Why would you be surprised he'd take charge and top?
Mexican society is patriarchal, masculine inclined. A man isn't a man if he doesn't behave as a man. Everything you described points to the premise that he would slip into the traditional male/masculine role while you, as the other party, would be relegated to the feminine/submissive role of bottom. Age had nothing to do with it. He's OK with having sex with other guys, but he's the man, he can't accept anything else. If you can, you both might enjoy yourselves.
