Metal and PUNK Fans!

More into punk hardcore than metal. Metal was for hicks and we were the cool city kids :D it was a healthy rivalry though.

Although the worst thing that happende to hardcore was crossover in the mid 80's. When DRI, COC, Verbal Abuse, Suicidal Tendencies etc wanted to become metal gods like Metallica, ugh and long hairs started coming to our shows stage diving with their feet first and we had to teach them about the "mosh" pit. :grrr: ;)

Now I do not mind a bit of metal in hardcore like His Hero Is Gone, Tragedy, Severed Head of State, Coliseum, Integrity etc. But give me early 80's hardcore any day (Negative Approach, SSD, FU's, Void, Faith ... Black Flag) or OI and early punk (60's, 70's).

Who are still going to shows and into the pit?

Well, while I wasn't around back in the early 80's. A lot more "punks" have (thankfully) become slightly more open minded and have branched out slightly in music tastes. I for one typically listen to a lot of D-Beat or Street punk and Oi. But I also listen to a lot of metal, thrash, hardcore(starting from Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Agnostic Front up to today's "hardcore") and grind music. Its not uncommon to see a street punk in a t-shirt of their favorite metal band pick. Also there is a HUGE following of GWAR in the punk scene today.

As for going to shows, HELL yes! I am at a show at the very least once a week and that means I am in the pit or the one starting the circle pit going! Sometimes I go to one on Friday night and fiollow one of the bands for the weekend. The last good band I went all weekend to was a Southside Chicago punk thrash. That had an AMAZING pit, I still feel it in my ribs!!! They just kicked out their first album too.

Here's there page:

The Infected

I worship many a metal band, however never got quite the taste for punk although I have developed a taste for a couple of "nerd punk" over bands over the years. Any other Metal lovers been to a rosemarys' billygoat concert? If not I recommend it, it is quite entertaining.

@ skinned rat. You are absolutely right but at age 14/15 you are not that openminded. The only bands we could agree to were Crucifix, Voivod and The Ramones :D .

Saw Los Crudos (final shows) in Chicago that had a healthy pit too, great shows.

Symphony X are fucking AMAZING.
One of the best bands about, within their "genre".

Very talented musicians, indeed!! ..|

I'm a fan of Dream Theater here. John Petrucci's one phenomenal guitarist, and James LaBrie's voice is seriously amazing.

I'm more a fan of punk than metal, although I have been listening to more metal lately since it has something that hardcore doesn't.

For punk I like: Refused, The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones, The Misfits, Black Flag, Against Me!, Lower Class Brats, Clit 45, F-Minus, The Unseen, Rancid, Social Distortion, The Distillers, The Damned, Dead Kennedys, etc....

As for metal I like: At the Gates, The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Black Dahlia Murder, Darkest Hour, Dark Tranquility, Converge, Danzig, Himsa, Opeth, etc...

I like a lot of other genres including goth, ebm, industrial, pop rock, new wave, etc...

Limpwrist yeah seen them a couple of times great music, great pit with naked skinheads but ... queercore ... another label :( .

More queerness: Big Boys legendary band from TX.

Punk biggest queer, still going strong. The Dicks "Hate the police"

Not very queer but 100% testosterone. Cro Mags - Generic NYC HC, my fave HC clip.

Straight Ahead @ CBGB's - What a band, what a crowd .... :-)

Hell yeah, Petrucci hauls ass. I also like a lot of the other G3 regulars as well; Vai, Satriani, etc.

Although I'm not the biggest "sword-metal" aficionado, Herman Li and Sam Totman of DragonForce can certainly tear a guitar to shreds:
