Re: Nancy Pelosi says NO to Michael Jackson

I'm glad that they shut it down. The Republicans would be so disgusting. It would be unethical for that to happen right after his death. It was obvious that his children are aware of some of the disgusting comments people are making about their father. I find that very sad. It is bad enough to loose a father at such a young age.

Re: Nancy Pelosi says NO to Michael Jackson

I don't care why they say they shut it down. I'm just glad that they did. I doubt that it would have passed and it would have just ended up with a bunch of people making disgusting accusations as if they were fact.

Re: Michael Jackson Was Attractive...?

He was hot up until the mid 1990's!

Re: Michael Jackson Was Attractive...?

Once, a long time ago, he was a handsome man, but then he turned himself into a freak.

Re: Michael Jackson Was Attractive...?

Yeah, he definitely had been handsome until a certain point. I just wish he had been able to see that, instead of mutilating his face. Then he really DID get scary looking.

Re: Nancy Pelosi says NO to Michael Jackson

Well perhaps a resolution would have been a bit much but I would support a stamp for Michael. That would be very appropriate for the musical genius that was Michael and all he contributed to in his short life.

Re: Nancy Pelosi says NO to Michael Jackson

Part of it was politics within the Dems themselves. Shiela Jackson Lee was a Hillary supporter and since she was a creater of this idea , Pelosi was not for it. Even Obama was careful in his comments of Michael Jackson. Anyone notice that? And it was days later before Obama even mentioned it, and then only after being pushed for a response.

Re: Michael Jackson Was Attractive...?

Actually, I think this is the best Michael. Why does it look like Michael is Quincy's "PYT" in the photo?

I doubt that had anything at all to do with it. Obama was simply being careful with his words because he knows that Michael Jackson was a controversial figure, and he didn't want his words to upset half of the American public and stir up friction between mostly Whites and Blacks over it.

Re: Nancy Pelosi says NO to Michael Jackson

Michael's career ended very early. He is more famous for cryogenics and chimpanzees and Neverland and his court cases and holding a baby over a balcony and his plastic surgery and all his other controversies than he is for his music and glove and crotch grabbing and moonwalking and hair catching fire.

For many, many years, when someone mentioned 'Michael Jackson', people didn't immediately think of Thriller. They thought, "Okay. What stupid-assed thing has he done now?"

Sorry, but I was a fan of his only when he was actually known for his music.

I wasn't a huge Michael Jackson fan. My appreciation of him was limited to supermarket tabloids, where I marked his transition from a handsome black guy to some ghastly freak of un-nature. Rationalize it as you will, there's no escaping the fact that here was a guy who went to the point of disfiguring himself to loose his racial identity: he was the anti-James Brown.

The fact that his personal life remains a question mark (to say the least!) would make a stamp inappropriate. I realize that stamps honor artists for their achievement in their field and not for their personal conduct. Other honorees like Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, and Elvis had serious drug problems.

But pedophilia -- even the hint of it (and with MJ there were a lot more than hints) -- is very different. In an interview a while back, Marianne Faithful said she didn't know if she believed in God but certainly believed in the Devil. When asked to elaborate, she said that she thought the sexualisation of children was a manifestation of pure evil. I couldn't agree more.

Re: Nancy Pelosi says NO to Michael Jackson

^She is a nutjob, but this is a decent thing she's done. Why should we honor a crazyman pedophile who made mediocre music 30 years ago? By that standard, when Madonna, Britney Spears, or Mariah Carey die, we should honor them and have stamps for them too?

Re: New Michael Jackson wax statue unveiled

looks more like Adam Brody than Michael Jackson imo...

Re: Nancy Pelosi says NO to Michael Jackson

Unless Michael Jackson is going to rise from the dead and start handing out jobs and medical coverage, I think Congress needs to focus upon the business of We, the People, and stop f_cking around.

amen to that bro....

Re: Nancy Pelosi says NO to Michael Jackson

Well this is sad, but I think she did the right thing.

Metta is right, Republicans would have attempted to drag his name through the dirt.

Hopefully he gets a stamp or some other honorable mention.
