Washington Lobbyist Threatens NFL Over Drafting of Michael Sam

Jack Burkman is CEO of the Washington, D.C. lobbying firm, J.M. Burkman & Assoc. The firm took on 70 new clients during 2013, more than any other lobbying company in Washington. The firm has four lobbyists who specialize in helping clients secure contracts with the federal government.

Burkman himself is a former campaign staffer for Bush-Cheney 2004 and was a paid political analyst for Fox News from January 1999 to December 1999.

Burkman is a homophobe who has drafted a bill he calls "The American Decency Act of 2014." This bill would ban homosexual athletes from playing for the NFL. Burkman seems strangely obsessed with homosexual males showering with heterosexual males. He says his bill is necessary "because of shower situations."

Burkman's bill would exempt teams which build separate shower facilities for their gay athletes.

"I truly believe NFL team owners and coaches do not want openly gay players on their teams because of the issues that will cause and I think they may tell you that if they answered honestly. The morals in this country have dropped so low that it’s sad that a bill like this is even needed."

As you might imagine, Burkman has taken a particular dislike to Michael Sam, the first openly gay athlete to be drafted into the NFL. (Sam was drafted by the St. Louis Rams late in the seventh round on Saturday, 10 May).

Burkman tried in February to discourage the NFL from drafting Sam by threatening to "financially rough up" any NFL team which drafts Michael Sam. By "financially rough up," Burkman means he intends to "build a coalition of evangelical Christian leaders from across the nation" to take part in a protest if Sam is drafted.

Burkman failed to stop the NFL from drafting Michael Sam. There is virtually no chance that his American Decency Act is going anywhere. His firm is reportedly losing clients because of his public homophobia. Michael Sam's St. Louis Rams jersey is already available and the "demand is 'ridiculous.'"

Thanks for this excellent post.

I think what we have here is a generation of older, white, heterosexual men who are trying desperately to cling to an America that never existed in the first place: drowning men grasping for straws that aren't even there. I wish I had one-tenth the courage of Michael Sam. He cried, he hugged and kissed his partner in front of a worldwide television audience. The Sun came up this morning. Thanks, Michael for giving gay kids hope.

Hmmm. Michael Sam's St. Louis Rams. That has a nice ring to it. :D

Actually, he was exposed in 2007 as having offered two girls $1,000 to have sex with him in the Mayflower Hotel. The girls refused, describing him as "creepy.'

The family values guy has a reputation for propositioning buxom young ladies in the D.C. area. Multiple offers from him have been reported on multiple blogs and social media sites over the years. He actually gives women his real business cards, and they identify that it's actually him with a Google image search.

It's okay, of course, since it's straight sex.

They're both athletes and complement each-other well. There is so much pressure on Sam right now. I hope he will excel on the field to shatter all doubts and stereotypes.

Well, either a closet case or a sex scandal involving himself. It's always at least one of the two with people this obsessed with gay sex.
