Michael Sam coming out is huge even though the apathy of some queens on this board do not get it. Sometimes this board does resemble stormfront.org. Michael Sam took a huge risk coming out he might not even get drafted since some NFL teams are anti gay. If Michael Sam was some blonde white guy there would be universal praise but because he is not white he gets backhanded praise. An excellent article was published on The Guardian a few days ago in the UK about the issue of RACE in relation to Michael Sam coming out. RACE matters here a young black gay man is courageous he knows the macho NFL is very homophobic but since he isn't some white twink his coming out treated like an afterthought by some white gay bigots.

I always knew some of the patrons on this site had issues with RACE. Micheal Sam coming out is a HUGE DEAL. in addition to all this, the dude is the real masculine dude not a pretender or poser

Live here in Missouri as transplant. Not big fan of Mizzou but can say proud of his teammates have accepted him as well as the campus. I give him much praise for his guts/balls to come and admit his sexuality. This proves point he plays the game of football he has proven it since high school. college and now its time let him play in NFL. We know that there are other gay players in NFL and other pro sports, college and high school.

What's kind of funny about that statement is one of the people that runs out to pull the "race is being ignored" card is Morrissey, who constantly downs other black men that have come out (Jason Collins and RuPaul, though the last one isn't relevant to sports) because they're not masculine enough. Instead of acknowledging the strength of ALL lgbt men of color that say something in the homophobic world of sports, he denigrates the ones that aren't the "bright" picture of masculinity while championing this man because he is so masculine.

So don't get me wrong - I know that there is an abundance of stories where white men seem to be everywhere, for lack of a better way of putting it. But that's not often because people are ignoring everything else out of self-preservation; more often than not, it's simply because stories of prominent men of other races in the sports world coming out are few and far between - the last black man to come out in the sports(take this with a grain of salt depending on your feelings on pro wrestling) world was Darren Young, and I do not believe that that story was cast off because he was black - in fact, other than the wrestling thread, I'm sure there were more than a couple of threads made noting him doing so.

As for tokenism and sexual fetishism... like most isms, yeah, it's going to be found on the site, but it's not as prevalent as, say, the reaction when a "straight" guy posts his headless torso in the Amateur section. I'd wager to bet that that's not much of a problem in this thread(or it won't be until the guy does a naked spread like Colin Kaepernick and Jon Jones, among others).

The thing I find most sad about the thread is, shockingly, not Kane... but the numerous people that have chimed in about how his masculinity is going to be the Excalibur that breaks down barriers. It's not even going to come CLOSE to doing that.

I hope the major teams avoid him and some smaller team picks him up, and then he kicks major ass against the teams who acted on prejudice.

Technically, the worst teams are supposed to pick first, with the best teams picking last. At that point, the worst team picks again. So at that point, in essence, every team has "passed" on him. That's not usually how people view it, though. It's just "he was selected in the third round" or what have you.

Michael Sam sending wrong message selling merchandise

Michael Sam has done a lot for advancing the rights of gay male athletes. However, I am disappointed Sam is selling buttons and T shirts. Michael Sam might not get drafted in the NFL. Michael did poorly at the NFL Combine. On the straight NFL forums some people are having a field day. If Michael gets into the NFL of course he should cash in. However, Michael needs to give his attention for the draft. The stereotype is gay men are poor professional athletes and I think the pressure got to Michael. Michael was slow at the Combine. Glad Michael declined the. Inviation to the White House.

Sam just opened up a shop on his official website where he is selling a lot of merchandise. He has T-shirts for adults and kids with his photo on them and the logo “Stand With Sam.” He is also selling buttons and a number of other T-shirts. The buttons can be purchased in various quantities for between $25 and $100 and the shirts cost $21.99. A portion of the proceeds goes to an at-risk youth charity and the rest goes to, assumedly, Michael Sam.
