The Canadian media say Michael sam abruptly left Montreal he asked to leave. For some reason sam is on a suspended list and the Montreal alouettes just cut six players. Anyone know what being on a suspended list means? The Canadian and American media are getting suspicious. Maybe sam is under so much pressure he is not performing well on the field. This the problem with being a gay martyr you will never live up to people unrealistic expectations. Sam needs to evaluate if he really wants to be a football player . It is so sad a rookie is under so much pressure to be a gay hero. No wonder nobody has come out in the nfl or cfl you need to be so mentally tough. To expect a rookie to have that mental toughness is too much. I hope Michael has a plan b if football does not work out.

If what you say is true why? What happened? The tone of the Montreal Alouettes has changed. The general manager seems less than impressed by him. I just read online articles are saying there is a rumour the other men on the team may have criticized San saying he is not good enough. I think sam would leave if he felt he was in a hostile homophobic environment. Michael seems like a sensitive person and pro football is very macho. Can you imagine working in an anti gay environment? I think gay men we underestimate how homophobic pro sports is . I doubt the other players made sam feel welcome either. I hope he has a plan b he can still make money perhaps write a tell all memoir or something? Another poster said sam was just a puppet for the gay media. Sadly I think this poster is correct.

I heard guys at work joke that he should try cheer-leading. Apparently if you can't make in Canadian football, it's a bad sign to athlete's abilities. I feel for him as it's not easy to be a public face of failure for any athlete. Hopefully his situation will not deter other athletes from coming out in the NFL.

It will. The reason Aaron Rodgers gay ass is still closeted and probably will be to his grave.

But I do hope I'm wrong, but I'm probably right.

If anyone comes out in the future, it will be for a non team sport or a non macho sport, like golf or skiing or something, a retired or a last season player, or a referee or a special teams person like that.

This is Michael Sam's last fight, and it doesn't look good.
I believe I know what happened to Sam—why he suddenly bolted from his last, great chance to be a professional football player.Some of you, holding a predisposition to dislike Sam because he's gay, won't understand what I'm about to say. Some of you, who understand nuance and human frailty, will get it.I believe that Sam has reached this point—where he left the CFL's Montreal Alouettes last week with little explanation to the team—because the pressure of being the first finally got to him. In this case, the pressure that came from becoming the first openly gay NFL player.
Sam will always be a hero to me, but I also know he is made of flesh and blood. Like other pioneers in sports, he carried the weight of many people on his shoulders.

I understand also sam has no black gay friends it is obvious he lives in a lily white world. By disassociating with black gays hurt his black ass. I think sam should have waited until he established himself in the NFL prior to coming out. There is so much homophobia in pro football and Sam also had no support from the straight black community. The white gay media used sam and the black straight community is apathetic to him. He lost due to also alienating black gay men. Sam seems to not have a support system a black one. Coming out in the public arena is different for whites than blacks. Michael Sam seems to have forgotten he is a black gay man.

Race is a huge part of the Michael Sam story if he was white I guarantee he would be on a NFL team right now. If you think black gay men got it easy you must be from another planet. Sam was rejected by the straight black community they see him as a fag and a disgrace to black manhood. Sam also was indeed used by the white gay media for their agenda. White gay men do have white skin privilege. Sam was naive he allowed white gay men to push him to become some gay hero. Sam obviously lives in a white gay world he has learned the hard way. Being black and gay is a unique experience and people who are not us will never understand it. Sam drank the Kool Aid and paid a price. Sam thought by assimilating into a white gay world he would be accepted. Instead sam was used by white gay men like his white gay publicist and people like outsports cyd Zeigler. Sam learned being black and gay in the public arena is not easy. Sam does not have white privilege.
