Attention Mick Fanning nearly eaten by a Shark on live TV

So they think it was a Bull shark that he came into contact with.. they're aggressive and can bite humans but aren't as dangerous as Great Whites. But it didn't bite him, just went after the surfboard, probably thinking it was an animal.

"Just went after the surfboard"
Yea right, if the shark smell any blood after it bit the surfboard, Mick would be seriously injured or killed.

Surfboards don't bleed, Bae.

He knew how to handle the situation... you punch the shark and it will retreat very quickly. Sharks smelling human blood swim away from it. Humans taste bad and smell worse to sharks. That's why they so seldom get attacked.

I need an expert opinion on this.
You are not an expert about shark don't like human blood :)

Unfortunately, some people lose their hands or forearms while attempting to punch sharks. It's helladangerous.

A brief Google search reveals that punching the shark on the nose is nearly impossible seeing that you are under water; plus the risk of your hand going straight into is mouth is too great.

The suggestion is that you go for his eyes with your fingers.

The "sharks don't like human flesh it tastes bad to them" seems also to be a fallacy.

Never eat stuffed cabbage and go in the water.

Apparently, it was a Great White. The shark appears to have been scared off when its mouth got caught in the leg rope. The general consensus seems to be, that if not for that, Mick Fanning would have been bitten.

Bull sharks are well known for being aggressive and killing people.

I loved the emcee's expletive. "HOLY shit!" Then he quickly followed with an apology. LOL.

I saw a documentary saying if shark smell its own dead,
the whole group of sharks will run away for hundreds or thousands of miles and will not return to the area for over 6 months.

The documentary is called "Killer whale Vs Great white shark"

Not saying that wasn't in the documentary, but that doesn't make solid sense.

The great fear has been that sharkfin soup has driven overkill of sharks, and a centerpiece of that protest has been the additional grievance that fishermen were simply cutting off the fins and throwing the sharks overboard.

If the dead and dying sharks were in fact a repellent, then the fishing boats wouldn't be able to catch any after the first.
