Really? He was being swarmed and was likely in danger from that mob of youths. You'd understand if you were ever mobbed by a gang of youths. It's happening all over America, google it. It recently happened at a mall I frequent, the Walden Galleria.

You may not be able to tell from abroad, but we have an unspoken code here. You generally can't pistol-whip a mouthy teen until he's 14, unless you're a teen yourself, and then you can do a drive by, but you have to promise to be indiscriminate and keep it within the hood.

It only speaks of the altercation at the point he began shoving. Anyone looking at the cell phone video can plainly see that he was shoved before that happened, and was encircled.

I don't say that society should sanction him slugging her. I'm only saying, I support him doing it, even as an illegal and immoral act, as wild animals should be curbed. They were behaving like a pack. If he had turned tail and run, they'd be worse for the next victim.

Supposing anything would have happened to them if he had left is delusional. You can't even get police to investigate actual burglaries much of the time.
 
Upon reading further, the local Asheville paper has a better article than the ones that simply sensationalize the story.

The gang was harassing some woman. He notified the police (mall police?) AND he told them to disperse. He saw her to a safe exit and then the gang turned to harassing him.

His lawyer has included that he is an ongoing patient for PTSD, but declined to indicate how that affected the events.

The man flagged down police and gave them the account unsolicited. He was later arrested.

He did not defend his own actions and regrets them. None of the representatives of the girls have responded and none sought medical attention.

I was right all along just watching the video.
These girls should be punished. Alistair made the wrong judgement.
 
Any grown man that would punch a 13 year old girl has a mental problem. Short of self defense if she has knife or something, there's absolutely no reason to be putting hands on anyone's kid.

You all would be shitting the bed if this guy punched his daughter.

His lawyer did say that he has ptsd, which is a mental condition.

For all he knew she did have a knife, they often do.

Girl gangs are worse than boys because they think they somehow have immunity to go around being little bitches to people, whenever i'm walking down the street and a gang of girls are approaching i just cross over to the other side of the road to avoid them.
 
Of course it would be far better to beat her worthless parents to death, slowly and publicly, but naturally, they weren't available.

Coddling her behaviour will only produce more of the same - much more. Children always push the envelope as far as they can. It's a natural part of the learning/growing up process. Teaching brats that they can do no wrong, that they are untouchable, does them nor society/civilization any favour.

I don't much care for 'what if' nonsense, but maybe next time she'll get herself killed. We can only hope. Obviously, her parents have no love for her, so it's very unlikely that anyone in this world will miss her.
 
She pushed him first then went back for more, egged on by that band of miscreants surrounding him. She deserved a smack, but not a closed fisted wallop by a 250 lb. man. He could have killed her. What that little girl needs is one of her parents to slap her across the face and make it sting, and a month of heavy work duty around the house and no partying with her "friends" at the mall. But we all know that's not about to happen.

His wife should have been on the phone with 911.

If I had a daughter, she wouldn't be disrespecting an adult like that.

Look, dude, I know you're a SJW. Trust me, this is not a fight you want to get into. Being 11 or 12 or 13 does not give a free ticket to being disrespectful and rowdy to adults. I'm not saying I approve of that guy's punching of the girl. But that unrowdy gang of girls were pushing a man with ptsd around.

Don't go down this path of defending the girls' behavior. Respect ought to be taught by the parents.

GOOD FOR HIM!

I have zero sympathy for punk ass kids who have lack of respect as a result of zero fear of consequences. Not getting my ass kicked buy both piers and adults was a driving factor in my better decision making growing up!
 
This is why some species eat their young, but unless he had cause to fear for his life or physical safety (like if they were armed with knives or something), punching out a kid is pretty extreme.
