So if a minor lies and says they are over the age of 18 to an adult...and you never met, just talked on the phone....and texted..can you get in trouble?

If U think a guy is much younger than what they tell U they are. Save yourself the trouble of going to jail and don't meet up with that person. Their are a lot of desperate kids who want to have sex badly and will do just about anything to obtain it. U won't get in trouble if U don't actually go and meet them in person. Tell them that ur not interested to spare their feelings and just take it as a life lesson.

If a kid lies to you and then you find out that's not your fault.

Uh no! [-X

If a kid lies to you, as an adult you're still held responsible and will be prosecuted and a registered sex offender for the rest of your days.

Which is one of many reasons why we have ZERO tolerance for u/a users here on JUB.

And you can take that to the bank! ..|

You're the "adult" you're supposed to have known better.

If you don't want to get fun of, I would ask for the thread to be moved this to a no-flame thread, perhaps, CO&R.

I think you are fine as long as you have stopped communicating with him.

Do you have any emails or texts where he admitted he was underage?

Read his history. Another troll I have on ignore.

In any situation, the adult is the responsible party. Period.

I think you're okay then, but if you are really worried about this consult a lawyer and not this forum.

right the adult is RESPONSIBLE to end all ties once they find something like that out.

Dude relax, we're just trying to give you the advice that you asked for. It may not be what you want to hear, but what you want isn't really the point here. Just try to listen and, as someone said before, consult a lawyer if you are really unsure/concerned.

That makes absolutely positively no sense....if I tell you I'm a 30 year old when I'm really not...YOU have no way of verifying that if you have never met me in your life.

Its the same deal.

Yes and No.

It's kind of like, "Officer I didn't know you really weren't a hooker!"

You pull some of that crap on the internet, or via text messages...reverse phone look up, phone records, they can still find enough reason to prosecute and to bring charges.

But hey, if you want to chance spending what little money you have laying around to pay lawyers to keep your ass out of jail or off the registry of sex offenders keep on texting away!

As I said If you meet with a guy and he tells you I'm such and such an age and he doesn't look it....you have every right to check ID....as well you should. Now if you don't do it thats your fault.

You and I are in absolute agreement! ..|

If you NEVER meet the dude you cannot & end all form of communication because of lies you cannot be at fault. ...IDK what state your in. But thats how things work where I am.

So long as you end it, there's no reason where any fault can be found, but rather responsibility on your part for not allowing things to go any further!

Good Job! :gogirl:

As soon as he told me I said thats illegal i can get into huge trouble...and be screwed up for the rest of my life...he kept pleading i said no...kept saying no...never a maybe never anything other than NO....he apologized admitted he lied twice...and said "thats the only wayy I knew you would talk to me was if i lied" Then he got the message...

and said he understands and that was that...I didn't and will not text him back. because thats a child.

So i look at it like this you got on a site thats for ADULTS only....thats decieving people and lying in itself....and i think against the law....then you lie to me and to to others about your age....then you admit to me your age and that you lied....I end all communication...
Well it sounds like you handled it the best you could. Hopefully, and I would imagine, everything will be fine.

Underage kids try to pass as adults all the time. I'd guess nothing happens most of the time. If a complaint is filed then the trouble starts. In my city a mafia don was being tried. The prosecutor was gay and it soon came to light that he had had sex with someone underage. This seemed to be right out of the godfather. I'm sure they found an adult looking sexually active kid and st the whole thing up. The prosecutor was fired, disbarred, probably served time and is a registered sex offender. My concern would be entrapment.

How and why does entrapment lead to arrest on Predator? The guys think they are communicating with someone young, but not actually.

Doesn't the United States have one of the highest age of consent in the world?

It's shocking how many people think the age of majority (18) is ALWAYS the age of consent. It seems like this stuff gets brought up every day here. To the OP - it depends on what state you live in, but in some states, the age of consent is 16 or 17. You shouldn't have been sending nude pics, but other than that you probably haven't done anything illegal, and meeting him would not be illegal.

It's these insanely high age of consent laws (if it is 18 in your state) that drives younger people to have to resort to lying and stuff like that in the first place. I just feel bad for 'em.

What's with these kind of threads? They're mushrooming everywhere!

And answering the OP: Yes. Duh.

In West Australia the age of consent for gay guys slides: If the guy is under 21, then he is allowed to consent to sex provided his lover is within two years of his age, so long as the lover is not under 18.

On the other hand, if a straight boy wants to shag his 16 year old girlfriend, then the State is okay with that.

The law in New South Wales is also archaic and odd. I can't remember exactly what it was in NSW, but a seventeen year old guy who makes love to his sixteen year old boyfriend can end up a registered sex offender while a 17 yo boy shagging his 16 yo girlfriend has committed no offence.

And I just checked the Aust. Federation of AIDS Organisations (because they are the first ones to pop up on Google) and found that actually the info that they put out is really wrong.

And Wikipedia is quite wrong too. It's amazing more people don't get arrested here, because WA is really quite homophobic when it comes to politicians and our police. Maybe it's because our politicians have severely underfunded the police, disabling them from arresting all the lovers...

^ Agreed, for the most part. Sex with someone aged 16, for example, even of the same sex, is legal in many states, but showing them porn or taking nude pictures is not legal. Giving advice about sex might also fall into the category of providing sexually explicit material. Yes, it's weird - you can have sex but not take pictures of it or share information and descriptions. Also, in the US, some states have a different requirement if one person is more than a few years older (same in some other countries). There are some gray areas, too. http://www.avert.org/age-of-consent.htm (site was down for server maintenance when I posted this, so I couldn't check the link). BDSM groups usually require 19 (or sometimes older), even for meetings where they just talk.

right the adult is RESPONSIBLE to end all ties once they find something like that out.

Not knowing the truth is not a defence in a court of law. Even if the minor lied, he is still a minor and the adult will be the one who is held responsible.

Minors lying about their age has happened time and time again in the past, long before the Internet, and many adults paid the consequences. Now the anonymity makes it much easier for adults to be 'sucked in' by minors, and it happens much more frequently.

That doesn't make you less innocent. You're just as guilty and you can be held responsible. Cutting all ties doesn't fix it.
