Mirror mirror on the wall...

We took a trip last week and spent the first night in what I would call a "luxury" sweet. The second night we were in a mid grade hotel room. The lower end room had one large mirror over both the sink and toilet. Now I have a bit of a gut on me and it's been a while since I got a good view of the equipment. I was pleased as it looked some what bigger than I had remembered. I took a shower and the hot water ran out after about 60 seconds. I finished in cold water.

Damn! I had done the "turtle" down there! What a killer.

Am I the only one?

And no, I don't look in mirrors, but didn't before I was fat either. There's too much emphasis on media-defined beauty, and I like myself just fine without being reminded frequently that I'm not a Greek god.

I like old people, and always have, and none of them ever looked sexy to me. I'm ready to be an old people.

A lot of hotels seem to do that. I don't want to watch myself peeing and find such mirrors rather disconcerting.

The wife had mentioned that there was a particular place that she wanted to visit and since the grass has been dormant for a few weeks I decided to take her to her desired destination. Neither of us have ever enjoyed being away from home for more than a few days so we do over nighters or at the most a 3 day trip.

The first night we were in a honeymoon suite that ran $450. and was pretty swanky by my standards, the second night was in an at best mid grade motel in a city that I had lived in as a boy. I have grown to accept that being 5' 7"
weighing 205 lbs and having at best an average dick is okay, hell at 70 who cares?

When we travel, we purposefully pick one of the 'best' (most expensive) places to stay, one mid-rate and at least one discount...even though we could always just stay at the best of the best and not really care.

Part of it is probably my Presbyterian ethos...but in reality it isn't.

We learned this on a trip to Morocco where our tour booked us into a range of places and we learned that we often had the best times of our lives in the most modest places. We have made some amazing friends and have have so many greater trips because of this approach!

I always look back and think that the happiest days of my life were when I had no money.

Had a great time, this week we are going to Frankenmuth and spending a night. When I was in my 20's I had a ton of friends and we were all broke but it was a common thing to pack up the van and head out with no thought about "what if" me and the wife lived in the '67 dodge van for a while (I always wanted a VW bus) those were indeed the days. Now we have a 2021 F150 that can stear it's self and has all of the bells and whistles, I just wish we still had the energy that we did 48 years ago.
