Who is Alfie?

AdmiralAlfie is the Keyser Söze of sending Republicans to North Korea, and air-dropping them at 32,000 ft. without parachutes.

AdmiralAlfie once killed a Republican, suburbanite simply for wearing jorts.

AdminralAlfie ate people like CoolKid for lunch Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

AdminralAlfie escaped the jungles of 'Nam to haunt & hunt Republican Chickenhawks in their sleep. (Think Freddie Krugger for the politically motivated.)

AdminralAlfie drank two bottles of Absinthe once, and still had time to debate William Higgins at Drake's on the socio-economic importance of eliminating the credit-default swaps back in 1999.

I need to get around to reading her books.

I personally think Atlas Shrugged is the motherload, but other people I know report The Fountainhead as their favorite. Both are lengthy.

Nonetheless, and for my own personal reasons, We the Living will always be my favorite of Rand's works.

Who is Alfie?

Alfie was at the same time one of the most disgusting figures ever to flex his fingers in the friendly forums of JUBdom and one of the most brilliant. He could -- and frequently did -- descend into more infantile and putrid blathering than anything decried now by our word-churning company, and yet when he pulled his wits about him like an aura of a god, he could -- and occasionally did -- post insights worthy of on-line forum Nobel, or perhaps Pulitzer, prizes.

It is both relieving and depressing that he is absent.

Isn't that her first book?

I think I'll start with that one. Although I'm in the middle of reviewing an old art history textbook and reading a few books and plays so it may be a while before I get to it.

I think it would read like a period piece to younger JUBbers...

From my perspective, the underlying message is bigger than the context of its original presentation.

I miss Alfie, too. :(

He certainly livened this place up. No offense, guys.

That's gotta be too true. I miss him too.
When I first came here he took up for me when another JUBber attacked me. Nothing he did bothered me since...|

You know who really befuddles me?

Fred Thompson.

He comes out of nowhere to run for President, gets a little hype for a short time, becomes an afterthought pretty quickly, and totally fades into oblivion again after the election.

It was somewhat bizarre.

Recently I've been watching lots of "Law and Order" reruns. From the ones I've watched, Fred Thompson is nowhere to be seen. I've even spotted Jerry Orbach several times and he's dead.

oh I think there are others that lighten the place up here... lol.

I spent a day or two a few weeks back reading old threads. ALfie and My old Friend Andreus taught me a few things.... Substance first... BUT style REQUIRED....Lol.

You have to argue substance and you have to do it in a way that is endearing even in its absolute aggression.

That seems to be a talent none of us have right now, unfortunately.

I'm not sure. I don't watch L&O all that much, but I've seen him a few times. He's a rather important guy. Isn't he their boss?

he quit the show back when he was running for president. Now he is a spokesman for the oil companies or something.

I know he quit the show. I just meant I was surprised chrisrobin didn't see him on the reruns when he was on the show.

Yes, Michael Steele is in hiding after the whole RNC spending tons of cash on strippers fiasco, and I doubt we'll ever see Joe the Plumber again (thank god) as he was just a bizarre poster child for the McCain/Pain ticket. Remember the whole "yeah, I have queer friends but they know I'd never allow them near my children" line? I wanted to stab that motherfucker with an ice pick.

As for the others, I'm not sure. Cheney doesn't really fit in with the modern Republican party anymore, as he seems to be way more moderate than they are now (never thought I'd say that). He's probably glad to be in retirement.

Dick Cheney has been in and out of the hospital for a better part of the year for heart failure.

Joe the Plumber gave a speech last year at a Michigan Tea Party rally decrying the current administration's 'socialism'. I suppose it's only fitting that the McCain/Palin poster child moves on the the next big thing.

Mr. Wurzelbacher complained that the Republicans were using him. Now he has given the Teabaggers an opportunity to use him. Poor, poor Joe. He wouldn't know Socialism if it bit him on the ass.
